Default 96' Temp. Gauge

I recently had the rear circuit board on my gauge cluster replaced. The one that holds the light bulbs. When I returned to my vehicle, the temp. gauge went all the way up to the top. Like, as far as it can go. When the car warms up to normal temp. the gauge goes up a little further but then stops past the red marking. Any clues on if it could be the gauge it self, or am i looking at maybe a thermoswitch or a sending unit?

if all was working ok before you replaced the board i would definately make sure they accidenterly did not pinch the temp gauge wire to ground thus going all the way up ,,have them double chk their work

ok when i started it this morning (cold) it didn't go up right away. Right when I would normally start to see it rise, it just went all the way up right away. If it was wired wrong would it even work at all?

an easy way to check:

when the car has not been run in quite some time (for example when you turn the car on for the first time in the morning), before turning it over, just turn the ignition on (without starting)...the temp guage should be working at this point...if it goes all the way up and the engine is obviously not on or been run, then it's the guage, if it sits on cold then your problem lies elsewhere...

nick i agree with you but also if the wire is ounched to ground somewhere it will make temp gauge read hot as soon as you put key on also if the temp sending unit is shorted to ground will do dsame thing
