next step: getting the cage/harnesses in and tokico shocks in before VIR. Who knows what else i'll run into while i'm doing that, but the car is a blast to drive around town and feels prett damn solid for an '83. I've also been helping neil maddux get his rx7 ready for the '02 MAARS season - which includes pulling the motor/trans/suspension/tons of other misc crap from the bent up to all hell '01 car and putting it in the new (straight) chassis.
Whats the consensus on brake pads for VIR? Alot of people swear by hawk blues - i've used carbotech P+ in the past and i've loved 'em. Do the blues stop better at speed on the track than the P+? If the blues are better i'll use 'em, i can swap them at the track.

oh but i am!!!! I'm thinking yellow/black or yellow/puple for JMU colors. Then madison motorsports will oWn all of joo!!!!
actually the maaco around here does decent work if you do your own prep and leave them to spray the paint (only). That will be the last thing i do, i will need to finish getting this thing together first. Once i run out of things to do with it, then i can add those extra skillz.

please tell me you are going to paint it Mad Skillz Yellow
sorry I had to say it.......

And best of all... you now have a car that gets pissed off and angrily beeps at you when you hit redline!
Chris, remembering the angry beep from his brother's '79 RX-7 from riding in the car when he was about 6 or so

I have no such beeping. Its smooth and strong to 7500+ .... havent sent it past that. There's some power up there (not a ton) and no valves to bend, so why not? But no beeping
I love older cars for their simplicity sometimes.

Oh, let's not forget about the low oil alarm as well. It'll come on around the carousel at Summit Point. One alarm goes "ahh, ahh, ahh, ahh" and the other goes "whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa". I forget which is which.
120hp? I hope your measuring at the crank. The top spec cars in the region are putting 105hp (roughly, they won't show you their dyno graphs) to the ground. And that is running extremely lean with the timing advanced to far the car idles like a stuck pig.

yeah... the one that goes "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" is the low coolant alarm. Not sure why mine went off last night but it did.
I figured 120HP at the crank as a rough estimate... i really dont know how much they're supposed to make. I should be by early next week to get that cage from joo

And I'd give up on that running total. By this time next year, it'll make you cry.
Like I said, I well tuned car built to DC rules will put about 105hp to the ground. An average car, like mine, is probably closer to 100. The differene is in the fuel pressure - I'm running stock with no reg, or about 3.4psi - the top cars run about 2psi and keep it really lean. They also play with their floats, which I haven't done yet. We could pick up a few more hp by rejetting the carb, but that is not allowed.

Yeah... and the motors also run hot and blow up. I will install the fuel pump/regulator (its less than $100 from summit for the two items packaged together), but i wont lean out the mixture until i can afford to build another motor. I'm hoping to have the car out on the track, ready to race for $3000. Not running up front, that will necessitate a new engine, panasports, etc, etc, etc.
