Default CRX SI SYNCROS

I'm about to drop my ZC motor into my CRX SI, and I was going to put a new clutch and flywheel on there, and i was thinking I might as well redo the syncros as well. Anybody know where I can get them at? Where I can read up on how to do this? How much are new syncros?

I have one, can't find anywhere that it talks about the syncros. Only says, Clutch, Driveshafts, and gear shift mechanism, maintainence, and back up light switch. Nothing about servicing the syncros

Call or visit gear-speed.com ...you can get the carbon synchro set for your tranny for around $200.

Do you know of any place on the net where they show a how-to for replacing the syncros, and other seals, bearings, whathaveyou inside the tranny? I figure if i'm putting a new flywheel, clutch, probably a quaife, i might as well get the syncros, and anything else in the trans done now, than later.

Anybody know if there are upgraded shift forks for our trannys?

the HELM has a step by step procedure to break down the tranny and replace seals/bearings/synchros. It's really a piece of cake. Never heard of stronger shift forks...if anyone knows, it will be gear-speed.

Well what the hell, the shop manual, honda civic/crx chassis maintainence and repair 88, and also a 90 supplement. Are you talking about the kind you can buy from autozone?

Is what I have a helms, or a haynes?

I don't know. Come to think of it, I don't think any of my 4th gen helm's have a tranny breakdown in them. I know that my 5th gen helms have the tranny breakdown in them, and pretty much the same except for the shift lever. It really isn't that hard...just crack it open and you'll see.

When rebuilding a transmission, I like to replace the oil guides, all the rubber seals [axles, shift rod, input shaft], and I check all the ball bearings for noise and replace those that show the slightest bit of wear. The only time I've had to replace any needle bearings in a transmission was after devestating damage that was caused by driving with no oil in the case.

Can a normal transmission shop rebuild a tranny, and replace all these seals, and inspect the bearings like you spoke about? And install my syncros from gearspeed?

How much do you think that would cost to have them do? (not the cost of the syncros though)

Probably mechanic's pay...about $78/hr and they'd probably try to get 4 hours out of you...and that's only for labor.
