Default Pseudo Type R into Automatic CRX

I just bought a 89 Honda CRX for $200. I also bought a B18 GSR motor with a Type R head for $700. (A great deal!) The biggest problem is that the Honda CRX is an automatic.

I had an 89 CRX Si back in college and swapped the motor with a ZC motor which was a easy. I'm not sure where to begin with this new project car.

I wanted to get a hydraulic tranny for the CRX. I wanted to know if this was difficult to swap or should I stick with the 90-93 Integra cable tranny...

I am a Chemist at a metal finishing company, http://www.highlandplating.com I work with numerous aerospace machine shops. I'm sure that they will work on the GSR/Type R motor for me but I'm not sure what to ask for. I heard the Type R head is already high performance... What can I do to this motor to make it better?

I'm taking the motor to my shop to clean out all the carbon deposit. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Pho

Converting the car to 5 speed isn't that hard.
You will need to remove the dash to swap the pedals. A bit of wiring at the stop swithch might be needed but no big deal at all.
You will need to remove the auto shifting mechanism , but keep the electrical connections. You will need to keep that wiring as if the car were in "P" all the time or it won't run. Really simple when you get to it. Running the clutch cable is a snap.
You will have to drill and use bolts and nuts to hold the shifter bushing in place, but that is self evident . You can go hydro, and I would recomend getting Hasport mounts, that will make it a bolt on deal.
I've done lots of those and it is no sweat.

Lots of auto ef's getting switched to manual lately. I wrote a guide up on doing the swap on a D-series.

Dax posted a guide that covers the pedal assembly earlier today.

Good luck.

That is the guide I used when I converted my car from an auto to a manual. You dont have to remove your dash. I didnt just take your seat out lay on the floor board and have at it. Good luck.

well some people prefer automatics...couldn't you just put in an automatic LS engine from the b18a?....ok you could and obviously it would suck huge ***** but it's always an option i suppose.

I just recently sold out my little EF and now drive a Lexus IS300, and it has the "auto" stick controls on the steering wheel to shift 2-5, I know they make similar systems for handicap people who need to control everything with their hands.

I'm thinking auto CRX with b18c1/5head engine, built to **** 94+ ls tranny with maybe hydro conversion...and auto shift buttons on the steering wheel...hmmm

Really?!

Anyway, auto trannys with a high revving - low TQ motor like that is going to suck *****. Do the work to make it manual, its not that hard. And as far as converting to hydro completley, a few people have done it.

Part of the thing that makes Hondas so quick for their size and the amount of power they make is thier kick *** gearing of the VTEC tranny.
