Welding Aluiminized steel
This can be done with a mig correct ? Do I need to grind away at the coating first ? And not in breath the fumes right, am I missing anything else ?

Well I did not know if you had to grind the coating away.

i mainly use a wire brush to get it off. if you weld it with the coat still on, do it out side. if not, the gasses will get under you mask, and irritate your skin. makes yoru skin feel "sun burned" and makes you get bags under your eyes. so do it outside.
The coating is less than .001" thick. Just turn the amps up and burn through it.
If you INSIST on removing it, just use some 80-grit sand paper, wrap around the pipe, grasp your hand around it, and turn the pipe back and forth a few times.

Clifton is correct. If you clean your work with a wire brush anyways you will take the aluminum silicon coating doing that alone. This isn't a galvanized pipe which would make a mess and excessive harmful fumes.
