Default First Gen B16?

Hey all, a buddy of mine bought an eg civic w/ a b16 swap. One guy said it was a first gen, another said it was a later model. Anyways its a B16a, pistons and rods are labled pr3? I'm assuming its a 1st gen, just want to get confirmation

that wouldnt matter. natural wear and tear over the at least 30,000 miles on the engine would alter the numbers.

thing about all of those indicators is they can all be changed-intake and exhaust manifold, valve cover,etc...
i remember seeing somewhere on Hybrid(i thought it was that same page you listed)where they had a list of serial numbers-for instance, from one number and lower was first gen,and from a certain number up was OBDI or OBDII.that's be the only real way to know for sure.can't find that now.
the date casting on the head may help, but it's not necessarily an accurate indicator.
