whats the best way to paint your wheels
welp...
im gonna first start off by saying that this is a suggestion
it worked for me and the paint is still holdin up
so i'm jus sharing my technique
i would grab a couple of things
1. steel wool
2. can(s) of primer
3. cans of preferred choice of wheel paint (duplicolor makes some nice std colors; white, silver, graphite aka gunmetal, bronze) http://www.duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html
4. 3m blue tape IF your gonna do a polished lip http://www.hardwarestore.com/m...0.jpg
5. deck of playing cards, maybe 2
steps to a hasty paint job for ur rims :
1. clean rims - this usually involves getting a bucket and a scrubber, i used a dishwashing scrubber, hell, i even used some dishwashing soap, cleaned the rims and dried off
2. tape off lip (if applicable) - if your going for the polished lip look, u might wanna break out the 3m blue tape and start taping off the lip, break off the tape in little strips so u can get it perfect
3. sanding - u wanna sand the paintable area with the steel wool so the paint will stick easier to the rims
4. clean...again - clean off the sanding residue
* at this time, you will begin painting, you'll want to break out the playing cards and stick them between the rim and tire, to avoid the paint from getting on the tire
5. primer - apply one liberal coat of primer to the rim, try to avoid spraying too close to avoid dripping, use swiping motions
6. sanding...again - sand down the now newly primered rim
7. clean...yet again - clean off the sanding residue
8. wheel paint - apply liberal coat of wheel paint, don't forget to paint the inside of the rim as well, you'll want to apply 3 coats of wheel paint
* be sure to let dry between each coat
9. clear coat - apply liberal coat of clear coat as well, i'd apply 3 coats of this as well
* once again, let dry between each coat
and BAM...there u have it...a hasty paint job!
i wouldn't necessarily say that this is the BEST way...but it's a technique

I am the paint man at my shop and have some good ways to make it look good with spending under $30
1. Goto Wal-mart and get Scotch-brite pads(2)
2. Get Krylon paint(spray can) This is the best paint to sparay w/o a primer.
3.Get masking tape and old newspaper
4. Tape off both sides of wheels to do the back and front.
5. Do the back first
6. Before painting wipe the rim off with tack cloth
7. heat up some water on stove and put the paint can in the water to heat up the can.
8. This helps to atomize the atoms in the can to spray a better mist and adhere better
9. SPRAY!
10. Untape wet but be carfull! Do it while wet in case your tape interfers with the rim causeing it to peel off paint,if it's wet you can do a quick blend with the sparay can.
11. Drink multiple beers to ensure a job well done!
