CEL on after 10 seconds of starting.
I drive a '94 Civic Hatchback VX. It is all stock with 108,000 miles on it. Changed
spark plugs and oil trying to see if it would resolve the bogging and CEL problem but
it still lights on. CEL would light up after 10 seconds of starting the car. So then I shut
off the car and restart the car. CEL goes off, comes back on around 10 seconds. This
goes on about 3-4 times usually then around the 5th and so times CEL would not
come on no more. This is how I solved the problem of it coming on. CEL comes on
randomly. Sometimes it comes on when I start the car, sometimes it doesn't. For a
full tank of gas which is 10 gallons, I get about 220 miles in the city. Which I'm
suppose to be getting around 30 or so and 40 on highway. I drive like a grandma
and never pedal to the metal unless on a on ramp which I have to to get up to
speed. Randomly, like after 15 or so minutes of driving, the car would
bog/jerk back and forth, not side ways, whenever I accelerate. Some of my buddies
say it felt like when one of my buddie's Supra had water in his engine and after
sucking the water out, it stopped. My car also idled right at 0 when it is fully warmed
up at stop lights and anywhere else where I'm parked. I adjusted a screw on the
intake manifold and it rose to around 800 rpm. Not sure if that was the proper way to
fix the low idle but at least the whole car and the engine doesn't shake anymore at
such a low idle. After shutting off the car, I would hear the engine knocking/ticking
from where the oil filter is. I know how it sounds like with the oil dripping, but this is
different. Its a tick, tick, tick, tick at a very fast rate. All my other friends with
honda's have never heard of that sound before when they got near my car after
turning it off. It also did this before the oil change too.
I read the thread about checking your engine light but I can't find the plug where you
have to stick in the pin connector. I'm also a little bit confused about sticking in the
pin connector into the plug. All I see is the ECU box screwed to the passenger floor
side with a long wire that has a LED bulb at the end. I think it's suppose to light up to
tell me the codes but I don't know how to get it to light up.
Please can anyone help me, I know that is a lot of problems but I need this car for
college and I just got this car in February. I don't want to add anything to it until
these problems are solved. Thanks to anyone who can help me and much
appreciated!
P.S. If you need anymore more information that I missed, please tell me!

1) dont put an entire line of space between each line. btween different subjects yes
2) what code does the CEL give?? take to autozone, they check it for free.
3) the ticking sound is probably just the valves which is normal. an adjustmant may be needed.

Sorry about the blank lines in between, just thought it would be easier for you guys to read it. I did space twice for my last 2 paragraphs instead of 1. I'll take it to autozone and see about the CEL then. Wasn't sure if they did it for free or not. Thanks!
look at the first thread in this forum.... ECU Codes and more

For the jerking i had the same problem in my eg it was right around 2500 rpm and it would jerk pretty violently and chirp the tires in 1st and 2nd gear the cel also wouldn't come on until i was driving for a while. It would also idle kinda low and rough feeling. I pulled the code and was o2 sensor so i changed that and the jerking went away and idle's really smoothe now so i could be ur o2 sensor.
