expierience with b16b all motor?
ive been reading through here and searched once and i havent found anythign with b16b all motor. Does anyone do this, or has anyone heard anything about it. it just seems odd because u see plenty of b16a and b18 but i havent really seen a civic type r motor, all motor.
I'm currently in the process of building mine. For this year it will be around 11.5, RM M22's, RM valvetrain, H-data s200, Toda header, 310's, J's test pipe into Spoon exhaust. As it is right now the car is fairly quick, I LOVE my motor!
I don't wanna jinx myself, I don't want to expect a certain number. Everyone tosses the 200 mark around like it's the goal to get.....the motor will make what it's gonna make, I just hope it's quicker than it is now. We'll see....

Not many people build B16B motors because of the cost of the motor. If you want a high revving motor that puts out 185HP to the flywheel and plan to keep it stock (as well as have the JDM bling), then one might opt for the B16B motor.
Otherwise, if you plan on tearing up the block anyways with high compression pistons, and work on the head, it's cheaper to just go with the B16A or a B18C.

It's nearly impossible to find a piston that will give you more compression than the stock pct piston will give you. Aries/Wiseco/JE cannot sem to figure out how this block works. I've given all of them stroke/bore/pin height and deck height. They did not have a piston that gave me more compression. They said that they would hafta "custom make" a piston for it, and it was a minnimum of a 24 piston order
So......to really get a high compression out of them you almost need to put a 1.8 crank in them.

I feel you on that. They act as if changing a crank and rods is a big deal. Usually you hear a whole bunch of crap like its not worth the money buy a gsr swap or save up for a itr swap. I just laugh cause thats just like telling a rich person to buy a chrysler 350 and put a bentley grill on to make it look like a bentley instead of buying a real bentley from jump. Its just not the same.

I have no clue what you are saying but for some reason I cant stop laughing. On the other hand I am currently in the process of putting an ITR crank and Rods into my B16b with ITB's. I will make a post about it when i am all finished.

It is my understanding that a B16B block and a GSR/ITR block are the same (dimensionally)?!? That a B16B is a B18C block with a B16 cranks, and some long rods to get a tall desk, short stroke, 1.6L, with an optimal rod/stroke ratio? Correct?
If you put a GS-R crank in a B16B block you basically have a GS-R, correct.
Why not save you money and just buy a GS-R short block outright, instead of making one the hard way?
Now an LS crank in a GS-R/ITR/CTR makes more sense (for power, not for long life since it has a bad rod/stroke ratio), and I am likely going to pursue this option as a second motor (auto-x).
Am I missing something?

This is correct. I bought my B16B for the characteristics of the motor. My car isn't daily driven, so I liked a motor that was very mild low end, but when you plant your foot and 6k happens, it puts you in your seat. I like that. I like the effortless high rpms, the perfect rod/stroke ratio. It has a semi-ported head, an AWESOME transmission with lsd....the damn things have so much potential. I'm in the process of throwing some big camshafts at it with more compression tuned with a Toda header, we'll see how it goes. Intrested to hear about this........

alright guys thanks alot, reason i posted is because i am selling my hatch soon, but might be buying another hatch like mine with a CTR motor already in it for farley cheap from a kid i know. its not that i want to buy the expensive CTR motor insted of GSR, jus that if i can get another hatch with a ctr motor for relativly good price, ill take it.
also i dont wanna turbo and mess with all that, stay with NA. lookin to do a under a thousand in engine mods first, then go to exterior.
so seems like way to go is GSR crank, anything else?
also interested to hear about people in this threads CTR build ups.

There's no replacement for displacement. My boss has a b20 and revs it to 10 grand all day and has no problems, the only thing is that you'd have to change the rod bearings more often which is no big deal. I know it's not a b16b but it's got an LS crank. You can check it out in the allmotor forum under "b20 on itb's" ****'s pretty sick. Oh LS crank use it, it work
Eh, Cleanrice seems to be the only one that has any REAL experience with tuning a B16B....at least from teh folks posting in this thread. I think I know who to talk to in the future when I am brainstorming for stuff on my motor.
Mine is daily driven too.....HAHAHA!!!! TQ owns me.
