Any idea what this sound could be?

I have a 2005 Accord. When in neutral coasting backwards or forwards at speeds under 10mph, I hear a popcorn type popping sound. It's not the engine bc when you turn it off and coast it still makes it. The sound kind of resonates through the axles. I took it to the dealer and they couldn't figure it out. They thought it could be the transmission (I have a 5spd manual) or differential. Once the car is in gear and going forward, it's fine. Noise goes away. Car runs great other then that annoying noise.

Did you even read his post?? He DID take it to the dealer, and they couldn't figure it out.
I honestly don't know what the sound could be. Have you tried taking it to a different dealership? Maybe another service center has someone who's heard this problem before and could shed some light on the subject...

If you want to help out the dealer, a real valuable thing is to pinpoint the location of the noise. From the driver's seat the direction of the sound can be very misleading.
This'll sound kinda stupid, but give it a try unless you're too embarassed...
Find an empty parking lot & get a couple friends. Have them stand/walk alongside while you drive slowly forwards & backwards. From outside they'll tell the location better than you can from inside. (Don't run over their feet... tell 'em they're lucky it doesn't make the noise at 60mph!)
If the sound is in back, get someone to crawl in the trunk & listen while you drive slowly to make the noise. Take out the spare & lift the carpet.
