My comp and leakdown test on ls/vtec..need advice..
My setup is fairly simple since i just bought the car. B18b block with b16 si head. I/E and thats about it. I just had a shop run a comp and leakdown test.
122 115 125 125
and he said it didnt leak at all or something. My numbers should be 135-185 so something is def wrong. He said i shouldnt worry about it but iam because they seem very very low. I asked him what he thought the problem was and he said i probally need to get my valves set. I asked him if he thought it was a headgasket/ringlands and he said no. I also asked him if he thought it was my valve seals and he said no. What do you guys think is going on.

some mechanics leak down devices and tools seem to read slightly different and depending on how well they do the test and what kind of time they take can read different results, as long as they are consistent you are okay, they seem to be right along the lines of the tolerance percentages.
if they were something like
225-130-222-190
then there would be a problem,
how does the car feel?? does it feel okay?

he may have also done the compression test with the throttle plate closed which could slightly lower your numbers. find somebody local that has a compression tester and do it again yourself. maybe take it to a different shop. it takes a whole 15 minutes to a do a compression and leakdown test.
it seems like those numbers should all have a two in front of them. they are pretty low especially if the motor is higher compression. i would definately get it checked again or do it yourself because those numbers are low. my 11:1 ls motor put 230-225-220-230 up. just for reference.
damn well now im nervous again lol. Well im only runing ls pistons. Im not sure how he performed the test but he didnt seem worried at all. I think im going to do it myself tommorow. Is it possible that he used a different guage or something?

dont wory u said u have a stock 95 ls right than ur compresion ratio is like 9.1-1 or something close to that and as long as the numbers are close together and large difrences than ur fine. if ur still wory bout it just go to pep boys and buy a compresion tester with the adaptor for ur spark plug holes and disconect ur distributor and crank ur car for like 5 seconds and check the numbers but to me theye look normal for a motor thats a litle worn out
Just some advice. When you do the test make sure your car is still warm, you remove all the spark plugs, and the fuse for injectors (i believe) is pulled. This will yield the most reliable results. Also since the motor is hot the metal tends to expand and sometimes the adapter piece for the compression tool will get stuck in the cylinders. I would recommend putting a little thread sealer on the adapter to keep this from happening. Good Luck!
