CBS F1 coverage gets thumbs up for me
Much better then I expected. Commentary is not bad. The best thing though is the amount of CMs. About half of what Speed puts in me thinks!

Still like it on speed much better. Hopefully it being on CBS will sway some of the left turn nuts to right and left racing!
What a great race!

Great race, but I'm not a fan of CBS's coverage. They dumbed it down a bit too much and I really like the Speed commentators. Also, they cut the press conference at the end, which can be very interesting. I'm watching Speed's replay next Friday.
Also, why won't anyone broadcast GP2??? I'd love to watch that.

I thought it was good but not as good as Speed. Also, I like seing the part when the top 3 drivers get out of the racecars but CBS didn't show it. The commentators where good and I'll take Derek over Jason Presley (sp) any day!
I also thought the coverage was quite a bit better than what I expected. (But to be fair, my expectations were really low, so low that listening to the race on mute was an option early on.
) Still it doesn't come close to Speed's broadcasts with their 3 man panel, which all get a
from me. On one hand this is a race I would have loved to have watched on Speed, but then this was also a good race you'd want to show to a potentially newer F1 audience on CBS.

What?? Everybody is happy? C'mon!!
I want my F1 race live!! What's that tape delayed crap. Would you watch the superbowl, NBA finals, or World Series if they weren't live? Heck no!! So why do we get satisfied with this? We all should be calling CBS, Speed Channel and the FIA and tell them how much we hate this.
The whole world watches the race before us.
Anyway, go JB

I thought the video coverage was pretty good, Derek Daly was excellent, but I simply can't stand Ralph Sheheen.
There was a huge uproar when he took over WRC commentary a couple years ago. To be honest Im very surprised he is doing F1 now.
Bob Varsha is head and shoulders better.

Speed commentary is better, but you have to remember that CBS will intentionally dumb down the commentary to try to keep the regular NASCAR audience from changing the channel.
Remember... No NASCAR race today, so CBS probably snagged a good share on that broadcast. Hopefully it beat Arena Football, but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.
As far as a great race... Yeah, i guess it was by F1 standards.
But the only real racing for the most part came after the last pit stops. Until that point I almost changed the channel myself a few times.
Admit it, Schumacher came from 13th to 2nd but still made most of his passes on pit stop strategy. Strategy is all great and stuff, but its not all that fun to watch IMO.
Yeah, the Button pass was fuggin sweet. I'd just like to see alot more of that stuff from "the best drivers in the world." You know, the norm rather than the exception.

Well, up here in Canada they did run it live of TSN, but hell if I'm going to get up at 5:00 AM to watch a race live when I can sleep in and watch it at 9:00.
However, I thought the commentating was pretty poor, and I may actually get up early next time to see if the live one is better.

I thought cbs covering the race was a breath of fresh air compared to the windbags on Speed. David Hobbs doesn’t pay attention to whats happening before he makes his lame and uneducated comments and Bob Varsha always taking every opportunity to romanticize F1 makes me sick. The three of them just repeat themselves race after race. And it was a nice change to hear someone say something positive about JV for once.
I agree.. I also want it live!
But it was OK. I think the race was soo good that I forgot what I was watching..
NOw someone PLEASE give me HDTV signal so I can watch a Great race on a great picture!

I too was surprised at it not sucking nearly as much as I expected. I REALLY prefer it live though. If they want CBS to show it tape delayed, fine, run it live on Speed and let CBS replay it later in the afternoon when they want to show it. Non-F1 viewers will not get up early to see it on Speed, but may watch it on CBS before watching the exciting world of pro golf. I hear they have even less passing than F1. As for Mikey's pass on Jenson, do you think they have to make a special seat with extra ball room? JV managed several good passes that actually made it to the screen and had a basically decent run, finally.
The race looked pretty good in HD. I don't think it was true 720 like the NFL but it definately came though in progressive and was clear and crisp compared to some of the other european feeds (Brittish Soccer most notably). The only thing that pissed me off was commercials with 12 and 6 to go. SIX FRIGGIN LAPS! Coke and Huggies could have waited 8 more minutes. Especially with the rundown going on in the race. You'd never see them pull a commercial that close to the end of a NASCAR race... heads would roll.

did any of you guys catch the comment that the driver's necks were getting a beating this weekend as this track is run counter-clockwise and majority L hand turns? the tracks are normally run clockwise w/ majority of R hand turns which the commentator said the driver's are used to.

I've heard a lot of people say that and I don't see why, Button fucked up coming into that corner and Schumi capatilized on it, I stil don't see why it was such an amazing pass, looked pretty routine to me.
Awesome race though.

To be fair, that wasn't CBS' call.
