** Hood Locks and Power locks - you opinion
First - How does Hood Locks do? It works by...... Please educated me.
Second - My alarm is wired to the Power Lock, so when I turn on, it locks all doors. Turn off, unlock all the doors.
Questions:
1. Can I wire it where when I turn on, it locks all the door. But when I turn off, it unlock NO doors.
2. I know this feature is convient. But does it make it safer if the alarm functions seperately from the door locks? Meaning, if they unlock the car, they still have to turn off the alarm. If they turn off the alarm, they still have to deal with the door locks. Your opinions....
Thanks

Mechanical hood locks have pins that slides in and out when you lock and unlock it. If you have the hood lock latched, if someone pops your hood hatch, they still can't get under your hood.
Power locks......disconnect them if your alarm automatically locks and unlocks the doors when you start and turnoff the car.

GoLowDrew: These are the aswers to your questions in the same order.
First: Basically, the hood lock is a sliding pin installed inside the front bean in the engine compartment wich latches into a holed bracket attached to the bottom of the hood. This pin is connected to a cable that is ran through the firewall to the inside of your car. The hood lock is actioned by a cylinder type lock connected at the other end of this cable (inside the car). Most of the time a cylindrical key is used to lock and unlock the hood.
Second: 1) Yes, you or your installer can program the alarm to make the power doorlocks to work the way you desire. You just need to enter into the program mode (explained in the alarm installation manual) and follow the steps until you get to the powerlocks section. Your alarm is able to lock the doors one or three seconds after the engine is started. You can disable this feature as well while programming. The same is applied to unlock the doors when the engine is shut off.
2) Yes, this feature is very convenient for safety reasons when you get in the car and off the car. It isn't relevant if a thief opens you car. When they use their tools to open the doors this feature is not considered, so it doesn't make any difference having the power locks connected to the alarm of not. What would really help to protect the power to your car is installing the hood lock.
