Default Best tranny for "high output" NA motors

Would you guys think the best transmission for a NA car would be the shortest gears possible? Or something a little longer like GSR gearing?

Im trying to decide if I should trade my transmission for a 99-00 SI w/ Phantom Grip LSD. I currently have a GSR tranny.

IMHO I would get a new USDM ITR tranny, put in a ATS 4.929 FD, get the ATS 3.077 1st gear and slap in a quaife LSD, and you're all set. Thats the set-up I'm gunning for when the funds become available. Then I'd sell off my old GSR tranny, the R LSD to recover some of the expenses.

The 99-00 Si tranny has a 4.26 final but with the Type R gear set. Try looking for a y21 Del Sol vtec tranny same gearing as ITR but no lsd.

if thats true, then the 1-5 gears must be a good deal shorter to make
them close to ITR gearing.

How would a gsr trans with b16 2nd and 3rd gears and a jdm 4.7 final drive work. I wannna go shorter also, and i only drag my car, and dont do autocross or anything like that. This will make my trans a jdm itr trans without the lsd. Too short or just right for 1/4 mile??

according to this
http://www.allmotorhonda.com/techpag...anny_specs.htm

the Si has a different first gear, and everother gear including final is the same as the USDM ITR

Si/ITR
3.307/3.230
2.105
1.458
1.107
0.848
3.000
4.400

maybe you were thinking of the JDM CRX or SiR (EF-8 and EF-9)...they have a 4.266 FD

99-00 si tranny is the same as a type r tranny except it has a different final (4.26) instead of the 4.44 and the tranny has no lsd but you already know that. Just pull it apart and count the teeth on the final.

I've talked to numerous people who have torn apart the 99-00 Si trannies and said it has a 4.26 FD. That would mean the 5th gear is ultra-short 5th because the 99-00 Si cruises at identical RPMs as the USDM ITR - I know this because I have a USDM ITR swap and my fiancee' has a 99 B16A2 swap in her car, and before I swapped in the ATS 4.929 both cars cruised in 5th gear at the same RPMs at the same speeds.

I've also heard of people tearing the 99-00 Si trannies apart and finding the 4.400 FD, so they might have had EITHER. Honda does wierd stuff sometimes.

But I say the ITR tranny with the ATS 4.929 FD - possibly the 3.077 1st gear too, since you're making over 200whp. I made only 175whp and my ATS 4.929 is just fine with my stock 1-4 gears and the GS-R 5th gear.

Where did that website get there info? Most people just assume its the same as a type r. Does someone have a real spec sheet from honda? That would help

Every civic Si i have ever driven/ridden in had the same basic ratio as my
ITR. i cant tell first, but we dont really care about that gear anyway.

Yes Honda does do some weird things somtimes. Talk to Katman. They had posted the B16A2 tranny was listed with a 4.26 but upon further inspection, i.e. tearing the tranny apart and counting the teeth, it turned out to be 4.40. Go figure. Which leads me to wonder the truth. Aww well i'll just put an ATS in mine and be done with it. Oh and whatever you decide to do i think a 99si tranny with itr final drive or ATS with a kaaz is a pretty good choice. Kaaz has some pretty crazy gear sets as well. Either way you go try and stay away from a Phantom Grip. Good luck man.

I think what it is, is people are mixing up 92+ transmissions and pre 92.
Since 92 every b16a trans that was in a civic siR has been the same.

Of course the 92-93 integra vtec transmissions may be the same as the
older civic trannies

Why are you guys recommending the ats 1st gear when switching to the 4.9 final?

.....And for those of you thinking about the 4.9 final and usdm itr 1-5 gears:

If you will be dragging, please keep in mind that if you anticipate making decent power and trapping et's at over 100mph then you'll need to make a shift to 5th... That's more time spent shifting (1-5 instead of just 1-4).....

I would think the 4.929 ATS would be a good combination with 22" Slicks.

Might be alittle too short with only 20" Slicks.

I'm leaning toward staying All-Motor instead of going Turbo, and my Trans Setup is prolly gonna be:

99-00 SI Trans
ATS 1st Gear
Quaife LSD
ATS 4.929 FD

We'll See...this Allmotor poo poo isnt cheap
