OT: Running a Marathon tomorrow.
Getting ready to run my first marathon tomorrow. Accomplishing one of my life goals (next is BASE jumping!) It'll be painful and agonizing, but at least it'll be long.
My goal is to be around 3.5 hours.

Wish me luck!
*edit: ok, those aren't really my calves... mine's more like SOHC vtec

Marathon = 26.2 miles
Good luck! While I'm not a runner (cyclist), remember to eat & drink early in the event. Also, stick to your pace schedule. Too many people get wrapped up in the excitement of the event and forget to do all this. Good luck!

Yeah, 26.2 miles long. I've been training since the beginning of the year, but since there was a lot of snow and very cold/windy days, I couldn't get too good of a training. But I'm pretty confident that I'll keep that 8:00 minutes/mile pace.
RStoR - Yeah, I'm going to be getting up at 4am tomorrow to get prepped. Dehydration and cramping are the only things worrying me. And a bit more OT-I used to live in Cary and had a few friends from Morrisville. Miss good ol' NC.

Whereabouts in Cary? I've been in the area for about 12 years now. Lived near State while I was in school there, then Cary for four years, now out in Garner.
G'luck tomorrow! I'd take me three weeks to run 26 miles, let alone three hours

A trick from when I was in the Army....when your done running and cooled down, lay on your back and elivate your legs, like put them up on a wall. This will allow most of the acids to gather in your hips rather than your thighs and calves which would equate in to sore 'stick up my ***' wierd walking. Follow the elivated legs with a thorough stretching session. Good luck!
good luck p nut. i did the la marathon in 2003. unfortunately, i "over trained" and injured my knees. i still did the marathon; ran the first 10 and had to stop due to excruciating pain. but i didn't want to say to everyone that i didn't finish it...so i walked the remaining 16. ended up finishing in 6+ hours...
good luck and be sure to carbo load. lots of pasta and grains.
kepani-who loves italian food.

I grew up near Old Apex and High House Road. Then moved to about Penny and Holly Springs. I remember seeing a CW ITR crusing around on Kildaire Farm Rd. about 4-5 years ago, when I was still back there. Was that you?
Haleiwa-Brando- Thanks for the tip, I'll definately need every bit of help to recover.
kepani - I actually almost messed up my knees, also (from running downhills and crappy shoes), but I've been on the knee brace for about a month now, and I feel fine. Hopefully they'll hold up tomorrow. And I might be hitting up Olive Garden for their "never ending pasta" tonight!

I wish ya the best of luck. If you are determined enough to do it, I am sure you will complete it.
As for BASE jumping, that happens to be one of my lifes goals as well. I hope to go through with it next time I vacation out west.

I hate running on pavement, i love running in the woods. XC is violent, what goes on when the fans and coaches can't see. I remember people getting pushed into trees, it was good times.
5:59 mile, i guess you either got it or you don't.

yeah, i like to run. but ive never attempted the mile. i use to run 3 laps instead of 4 when i was in school and count that as my mile time. haha.
plus i was inactive for quite a while before i started to run again.

I ran XC in high school, man did that suck
I broke 20 minutes once and only once. Just ran because it was the easiest sport to letter in
P Nut - I lived off of Cary Parkway in some apartments near Lochmere. I had a black Hype R, but there was a CW just down the road from me, driven by a younger guy. Can't remember if it was a '97 or '98.

Im going to run the Columbus marathon here in October. Running is a good sport, ran a 4:47 mile in HS and a 16:37 5k for cross country. Im too lazy to even compete in college

Those are awesome times
With a time in the mid 16's I'd assume you went to the state championships?

Those are pretty impressive times. I only ran the mile in HS (4:51, I think). No way I'd compete at college level, though, especially around here where we're at 4800 ft above sea level... (which reminds me to pack some O2, just in case).
Splat - Seems to be alot of nice cars around that area. I've seen a white S2k on BBS's a while back near those houses in Lochmere.

I always used to be so jealous when I saw him driving around. I remember I came out of Goodberry's one time, saw the car parked up front and just stared for like 10 minutes
Thanks for the support everyone.

Any chance it had a hardtop? If so, I've seen that guy out on the streets, and he drives like a pole-smoker. Not judging, but Cary has a lot of kids driving Daddy's money, with Step-Mommy's lawyer on retainer
That said, Goodberry's is good ****
