Default Mig welding experts need some help

I was cutting my line today for the wire, and I forgot I had the one piece off the gun. So the line is a little short, but not that bad, probably about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch to short. The guy at the welding place said I would be fine, he said it had nothing to do with the mig welding gas. Just the wire feeding threw it. So my question is, was he right ? Or will the gas be interupted ?Just want to know if I should buy a new line or not ?

The piece I'm holding is the piece I forgot I took off. When everything is screwed all together , including the tip, the liner is about 5 to 10mm away from each other

Edited : I think I was suppose to leave that piece off, or else the liner would be hitting the tip. Anyone care to share though ?

Here is a weld I just did, I'm not asking for whats wrong. I just want to know if it looks like gas is being used ? I want to make sure gas is not escaping. If gas was leaking anywhere before the mig wire, would I be able to feel it ?

I read the instructions over and over, and I think that piece was suppose to be off when I cut it. Because if it was on, the liner would be coming out of the nozzle. But I just want to hear others opinions to be on the safe side of things

I still don't have an idea of why you might be worried about this. But anyways, you're fine, gas is working and there's nothing wrong.

Yeah, it will work fine like that. The only problem I could forsee would be if the wire started wadding up between the end of the liner and the contact tip.. but use it if it works.

For future:

screw that piece in your pic on there. Then you want to trim the liner so that you have to use the contact tip to push it in and then turn the tip to thread it in. In other words, you want the liner to kinda be compressed in there. Many people don't do this...but many people have a lot of problems with wirefeed.

Totally understand, so if the liner is not compressed in there, will there be any problems with the gas feed or leaking or anything ?
