Takata uses that "cross weave" design that are supposedly much stronger than the traditional harnesses. I think many F1 cars use their harnesses too. But still, $700.......

Is that a good thing? I've never seen a belt break in any environment (racing, HPDE, etc), and I was under the impression that belts are designed to stretch in order to cushion the blow.

Not many, I believe only BAR Honda Currently.
Sabelt on the other hand is the most widely used belts in motorsport. Almost all in WRC uses them and also in the F1.

Maybe for formula cars the extra tension strength is needed. As far as stretching ability, being stronger does not always mean that it is less stretchy? I'm not sure, but it definitely is a point of discussion, just like personally I do not like the idea of seatback brace on non-FIA approved seats.

Why so much?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I think it's a mistake. They should be 3".
Well.... I have to admit that I have a set of 5-pt greeny Takata in my race car. But I didn't buy it, it came with the car so don't laugh at me.
$700 is for 2 sets -- but $350 for one set is still a lot of money, plus you need to add another $50 for the sub-belt.
I also have a set of Crow 5-pt. Based on my experience, the Takata is a lot lighter (the belt and the latch) than the Crow and Sparco, and is more comfortable to wear.

We're not doubting that your price isn't reasonable for what you're selling, just that not many people here (RR/Autox forum) want to spend that much money on something like that. Personally, if I were to go all out I'd go with a pair of either Schroth or Willans 6-points for like $270 each, and still be less money than the Takata bling, with the dual subbelt to boot. But that's me.
<---Currently using two used Schroth 5-points, ~$70 each.

btw, they are expensive to start with, price asking is significantly lower than retail price of $450 each, so 2 would be $900

how's this the wrong forum when it's a racing harness? just because most folks who buy them choose to use them for cosmetic reason does not in anyway negates these as genuine race product used in professional racing.
F1, JGTC, etc.
And if some feel's the product costs too much, thats fine too, but that is no reason to bash a product. people needs to be logical.

Myabe not the wrong forum from a rules perspective, but probably from a results perspective. The majority of folks in this forum have issues with expensive green japanese parts. Do a quick search for tein in rr/autox and you'll see what I mean. I really didn't realize that Takata harnesses were that $$$

Motorsport is only a very small portion of things that Takata Japan does. Besides F1, you can also see Takata belts in Formula Nippon, F3 and CART. Their main business is road safety research and development like child seat, crash standard, airbag and of course, seat belts. Their clients include Honda, Nissan, Subaru and many other major car manufacturers.
Their products were tested in lab for extreme temperatures, moisture, vibration, light, and sun light to simulate a 30year life cycle of the product. Too bad their racing belts are only good for 5 years huh?
I guess what I'm trying to say is, although they made their racing harness green, it doesn't mean that they are a bling only company.

Actually you won't find many racing cars with 4 point harnesses. Those Takata 4 pt. may be "racing style" but certainly not racing, that's why it is the wrong forum.

I know of no sactioning body in the sUe.S.A that allows a 4 pt harness. Some groups won't even allow them for driving schools...
