i have a 01 prelude w/intake, exhaust, and headers, and it use to be a showcar, but now a daily driver. so basically one mechanic told me my oil is burning to fast and i have a problem with the rings in my engine and my engine has to be opened. and another mechanic told me this is a common problem with show cars since they are turned on and off so much or something and the engine has to rebuilt and its $3000-$4000. i filled it up with synthetic oil 3 days ago and the dip stick shows about 75% gone. so basically, i dont got that much money at all, and i just need somebody i can trust and somebody that does good work for cheap in the los angeles area?

anybody know any good mechanics?
anybody had this problem?
anybody know what the problem is?

Do the compression test and leak down test to know for sure. Don't take any word from any mechanic. Some of them are very dumb and don't know what the hell they are talking about.

its not that they're dumb its that they can easily rip people off, but yeah know for sure before you drop that much money

 

you'll need a compression test tools that plugs in the spark plug hole and try starting the engine and it'll show you how much compression and it'll needs to reach around the spec of your car.

You could buy compression tester gauge at Pepboys, Autozone, Sears.... about $30. Search on internet for compression testing instruction, pretty easy tho.

 

what about the leak down test, how do i do that

This is so true...and for 3000 to 4000 thousands dollars **** you can build a strong bottom end.....And some..

And do the CP test.and leak down test...

 

Did you do a break in on the engine before you installed the synthetic? I have always heard that you need to break it in with dino oil. or has it been rebuilt? your post is kinda confusing? i would definately say you have some issues either way if youy have that much oil gone.

 

pull your spark plugs out take a look at them, If they are black and oil soaked then either your cylinder walls are shot or your valve seals are leaking. trust me I have been down that road before. Do what everyone else says also (comp. test and leak down test). Good luck!

 

thanks guys, i did a compression check on the car, and everything was fine, it was like 180 on all 4 cylinders and there was no oil spill anywhere, my spark plugs needed to be replaced though, but i dont see any problems.

 

180 seems pretty low for 10:1 compression...but not low enough to warrant a rebuild, also, to rebuild to stock specs should cost less than a grand to replace rings and gaskets and what not...try calling prospeed or prostreet, both located in socal
