Anyone removed the HVAC system for cage installation?
Hey all, I'm working on our Project 2002 Civic Si, which we're turning in to a track car. I've got most the the interior out, and am kinda thinking about removing the HVAC system from under the dash to help out the folks at Kirk, who will be installing the cage. There's no obvious place to start with the removal, and I don't want to tear into it *****-nilly due to the proximity to the ECU and the fact that it would be nice to be able to get it back in somehow to have an operational defogger should the weather turn ugly. Anyone done this one before, if so, any tips on the removal of the condenser/fan assembly?
I've taken it out before...I'm not sure how I did it though. I wasn't being overly careful as I was stripping the car to be junked. If I remember correctly, you start by looping the heater core lines from the engine and removing the bracket at the firewall that holds the heater core's barbs steady.
After that, methinks there are several golden-headed bolts securing it to the firewall and/or "tranny tunnel" insofar as there is one in a FWD car
. It's kind of intutive once you get going, but it'll annoy the **** out of you until you find those last remaining connections
.
Good luck.
