Is the REAR bumper on a 96-98 HATCH the same as on 99-00?

No they are not the same, in that the 99-00 rear bumpers have a slight "lip" on the bottom. But if you want to know if you could put a 99-00 bumper on your 96-98 hatch, yes you can. (and visa versa)

Just to clarify, we are talking hatches right?

Your second pic was of a coupe.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Hatches and coupes have the same bumper. So you can use the rear bumper off a coupe on your hatch or anything inbetween. The sedan, I'm not positive about but I think it is the same also. Check my thread, it might be in there.

I don't think so, my 99 CX's rear bumper is different
than that EK's in the pic. Mine goes up a bit right below the
tail lights. If I were to use a coupe one (if it fit) it would leave
a nasty ~1" gap under the tail lights.

Obviously, you have realized for yourself and others he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I'll tell you straight out, for a hatch I'm not certain. Ask me about the coupe and I'm all for it, but that's invalid to the question.

 

i dont know whos car that one is in the pictures but im sure if its not yours they dont like having thier lisence plates posted on honda tech

especially since theres a new "stolen civic" thread everyday

 

to whoever is saying the hatch/coupe rear bumper are the same thing... when was the last time you changed your contacts? j/p man, but honestly they're nothing alike, check the pics devnull posted.

to answer the topic... they're interchangable, but not identical from a 96-98 to a 99-00, as the first or second reply stated.

I see......well that's good to know. Anyway, those pictures were just used to show the difference of the bottom of the 2 bumpers.

In conclusion:
99-00 civic hatch bumpers and 96-98 hatch bumpers are interchangable. (hatch only, thank you devnull)
99-00 Civic coupe bumpers and 96-98 civic coupe bumpers are interchangeable.

I think we all know that... the question is are the 96-98 HATCH rear bumper the same as a 99-00 HATCH rear bumper. I don't know so bump

If you don't want your license plate viewable to the public take it off your
car or keep your car in the garage.

Thanks to everyone else who contributed. Someone should go ahead and
post this information in that thread I linked to. It would help to clarify things on searches.

Yes and no. Yes they are, in that they both share the same mounting locations. No, in that the 99-00 has that flare at the bottom the 96-98 does not. (hence the 2 pictures I had posted)
