Default Tips for bare metal respray?

Hi there,

Im currently prepping my CRX for a respray but have decided to do the prep work myself. I have taken the car down to bare metal however there are a load of scratches on the metal. Should I aim to rid of these before adding the primer? Or is this where I should buy some high build primer?

Any other tips/guides would be greatly appreciated

Buy some primer surfacer, spray 2-3 coats and then spray some rattle can black over the top of the primer. This will show you your low and high spots and allow you to block it flat.

is there any other terms used for primer surfacer? I am from the UK so just wondering incase my local shop doesnt know what im on about. Is primer surfacer a high build primer? I have white primer so is it best I use a black primer surfacer to spot the highs and lows?

Thanks for the reply

Ok i've done a layer with the etching primer and its come out ok but a bit thin in places. The guy who sold me the primer said only to do one coat or else it would **** up the finish, why would this be?

Im tempted to spray a second layer on the faint areas thats all

Hit metal with a DA then clean with a grease and wax remover.
Then use a light coat of metal etch.
Then a good sealer.
Block out sealer for flat finish.

You only need one coat so there is something to "hang on too"
Sealer is for filling scratches and leveling, big difference between the 2, make sure you block out the sealer to get it flat.
