best d series sohc tranny
i kno this has probably been discussed before but was just wondering if i shud get rid of my d16a6 si tranny for something better or is that the best tranny for my year hatch? 89 si hatch with 197,000 miles
The ZC/Si Hybrid is a ZC tranny with the Si 5th and final drive gears in it. If you get lucky it will already have the Si gears in it like mine plus you can use the half shaft of the ZC and eliminate torque steer. The ZC tranny had many zariants some came with ZC gears some came with Si gears, some had LSD some didn't, it's prett much luck of the draw really.

you can do it that way, but you would then have to get a clutch to fit the input shaft. It has a different amount of splines... but if you were to put the 3rd, 4th, and 5th gears from the zc into the si housing with si 1st, 2nd, and final drive, you could use the clutch that you already have.

The only spline difference for the L3 family is the '88.
You can take the ZC 1-4 and add the Si 5th/final drive without any special clutch selection beyond the regular year/flywheel differences.
