Would This Be A Throw Out Bearing Problem?
B16A2 Engine, GSR Tranny
I get off the interstate, cruising at about 85 for half an hour. A few stoplights off the exit, the clutch pedal had some resistance going into first and for the following gears. At the next stoplight, I go to push my clutch in and there is a good whining sound, and I can hear the sound for each gear thereafter, but quiter the higher up I go and the pedal stiffness is gone. Next stoplight I press the clucth pedal while in first and it whines and then stalls out almost instantly. I get to where I am going and pop the hood and smell some nice burnt "something" which I am assuming clutch. The clutch fluid is slightly low, but not anything significant.
On my way back, the car constantly whines with each time I press the clutch in, also has very faint squeel/whine while ideling. Also it's stalling out immediately unless I rev it up first to go into first gear. Would this be a throw out bearing problem or something different?
Thanks

sounds like a thowout bearing or an input shaft bearing, heres how you tell the difference... the input bearing will stop turning when the clutch is engaged and the car is at a stop, because the transmission is not turning. another way to test this is to engage the clutch and roll the car down the street without the motor running, this just turns the transmission and not the clutch components. the throwout bearing turns all the time when the motor is running weather the clutch is engaged or not. good luck!
