Default car doesnt start. did 1 hour before

heres the story...
I bought a new exhaust manifold and starter and got home to install them.. i disconnect (+) and (-) battery terminals, jack the car up.
I then install my new manifold bolt everything up and change my oil. then i decide i dont want t0 do the starter so i just leave it alone. drop the car add oil and go to start the car. car doesnt start, it seems like it has a dead battery. Hestiate's to turn over, then i try again hesitate's then starts? wtf?

I drive it around runs perfect, come home shut it off and hesitates again? im confussed, it just starts up when it wants to. anything to check for? i cleaned both terminals, grounds, battery is at 12.1 volts? any ideas?
thanks

sounds like a bad battery cable. What year is your car?

You said you decided not to replace the starter to the new one you bought. So, you're still using the old starter? And what was the problem with the old starter?

If that is the old starter you're using and having problems with, then as you said, it starts, then an hour later it doesn't. The problem may not be the starter itself, but may be the starter solenoid. It's probably bad now. If it starts when it's cold, and doesn't start an hour later when it's hot, it could be that the coils inside are expanding as it gets hot. So it's having problems spinning.

I don't understand how all of a sudden it would be bad ground. It's grounded through the tranny. There is no actual ground wire connected to it. You can test if it spins strong by creating a jumper lead from the battery's positive termal to the starter wire input. Just pull the small female connector off the starter solenoid. Make sure it's not in gear.

I had a problem similar to this, and if I recall it was 99.9% a bad ground.
