I just got a 92 eg cx hatch - when I drive it fumes / smell makes it very uncomfortable. I think they are coming from the front and I have seen no smoke. I am not sure if it’s exhaust because it has a more oily and starter fluid smell to it. It could be the clutch or tranny because they are pretty rough. The car just passed smog so I don’t think it has anything to do with emissions. When the windows are close the smell comes through the vents a bit and when the windows are open it becomes a lot worse. I noticed the smell gets worse at a higher RPM. Does anyone have any suggestions on ways I can find what is causing this smell?

 

pop your hood, have someone get in the car and give some steddy gas. Look for sprays or leaks around you injectors and other areas. goodluck with the problem
