Advan A032R a little extreme?
Basically i need sticky tires (i know this is noob, just go with it
)\
This last auto X event really pissed me off. I have been auto Xing for two years now, and am admitting that I am not a pro. The first year it was just for fun, but know Im hooked and want to start taking it seriously. Long story short, i was all over the track......basically drifting. BTW its an ITR. I auto X on most weekends and every once in a while i drive the ITR to school (about 11 miles). I was told i should try the Advan A032R. Its DOT approved and i can get an excellent deal. Is this a good move to make? I am open to all opinions, and thanks a lot for the help!

If you are struggling with your driving out there, racing tires AREN'T going to make things easier. In fact, often times they hide bad mistakes. Just something to think about. However, that being said, the fact that you have 2 years of autocrossing experience might mean it is the car/tires that is the problem, and an entry-level DOT tire such as the A032R might be a help.
What tires are you running now?
What tires are you running now?
i saw 2 itr's at the auto x event i went to last week n they where all over the road i dont know the tires they where running but the first guy kept spinning out looked like a suck driver and the second was drifting all over enough to slow down his times...maybe a tough car to handle?
I know that if I slap these tires on my time isn't going to drop 6 seconds or anything, but im hoping it will give me enough grip to feel confident. From what I have heard, some drivers are able to knock up to 2 seconds when switching from a street tire to a tire like this or the Azenis. Like I had said, im not a pro by all means, but on turns that weren't that severe, i was sliding.

They are these brand new tires that were on the car when i bought it. I believe they are Champiro's. I had never heard of them when I bought the car either, but are a very nice high performance street tire. I would probably not buy them again (dont even know where to find them) but they have a very similar feel to by old Kumho 712's. Just on the track they are no good. Thanks a lot of some of the pointers

Learn to autocross cheap tires, that's the only advice I can give you
My OEM RE010's on my ITR lasted ~2500 miles.
Seriously, a McKamey school will shave better than 2 seconds off, and the skills will last a lifetime.

p.s. In my opinion, A032R are a suck-*** autocross tire. They take a while to heat up, plus they put you in R-compound territory rather than street tire class.

I ran 712's on my hatch the first year of autocross and came 2 point from the rookie of the year. I thought the gripped well but just made ALOT of noise before letting go.
I think with a ITR you should have no trouble findign the limit of a tire, and stay at that limit...now that might be 3 seconds or more from your best possbile stock time but you should not be sliding if you can control the tires. You might be faster with the advans but you will still be over driving the tires as some points...

Its an excellent street tire that you can have fun with. Even handled socal rain very well. At the same time, you can drive to and from an event without switching tires. It's a little noisier than regular tires, but the extra grip makes it worth it. Using factory seats with these tires was also a problem, too much grip and not enough support from the seats. It won't last more than 5-15K miles, if that. But it should provide you with a FUN 5-15K miles, lol.

Go to school.
And to answer the question:
The advan 032R worked great for me on an autocross course. I got the soft compound and got over 6 hours of track time and a bunch of autocrosses along with about 500 street miles before giving them away with plenty of life left to upgrade to Hoosiers.

Personally I think an ITR is the easiest car to autox I've ever driven... pretty much does anything you ask it to, and generally does a good job of keeping the driver from screwing up. Much more idiot proof than say, an S2000
R-tires won't really help you much if your driving isn't fixed first.

Yoko 032R's in soft compound are a very nice tire. I use them to drive to the track on and use in cold or wet weather when not running Hoosiers in the dry, as they warm up quickly. They lasted all last year, and while they don't have much tread left, they can still be run a few more miles. And I got a great deal on them.

This is at least one of your problems. If you're starting with a tire that's on par with a 712, you have almost nowhere to go but up in grip. You could try something cheaper than the A032s, and something that would heat up faster. Falken Azenis or Kumho MX would be an alright starting point, and would leave you in the street tire classing. Also, as said with many others, the school will be the biggest difference of anything you could buy.

I'm currently running the A032R-S in DSP. I'm pleased, although they don't quite have the dry traction as a Hoosier or V710. Excellent wet traction; they would make a phenomenal wet tire.

Thanks a lot for the advice guys, i really appreciate it. I think I am going to go ahead and try them out, but I am starting to look into some schools now. There are a few guys I auto X with and those few guys ALWAYS get the best times at most of the meets i go to, so, on top of looking for a school to help me a little more, im gonna ride with them, as well as have them ride with me for pointers

Yeah, I looked into the Falken Azenis, but the sports are discontinued and believe it or not, I can get the advans cheaper than the 615's

I've got 4 USED 225/50/15 Advan A032R tires in the hard compound that I'd sell.
They've got 5 track events on them but still have plenty of meat left for a few more events and some street milage.
If you're interested PM me. I'm in California.
Thanks.

CHEAPER? Whoa. Well, hell, that'd be worth a shot then.
