I can tell you my experience.

16x7 +40 with 205/50 R15 rubs for me on the outside of the rear wheel well, and at the top of the front wheel well. ~4.5" from the ground. The rear was fixed when I rolled the fender. The front is 'mostly fixed' after pounding the ridge at the top of the wheel well.

16x7 +38 with 205/45 does not rub for me nearly as much. Mostly just the top of the front wheel well when pulling into my driveway (the curbs aren't smoothed by the driveways, just a dull curb to hop.)

YMMV.

If I was you I'd try the 205/45 R16 Hankook Z212 (Ventus R-S2). Discount Tire Direct has them in stock.

so the actual wheel itself won't rub on any part of the suspension? I would probably go with a 205/45, just figured i'd throw out the 215/45, cause if that worked, a 205/45 should deffinitely work....thanks chris.

You know, I didn't even think about the wheel itself.

16x8 +42

The close part should be in the rear.. 0.5 inch is about 13 mm, so you're 15 mm closer on the inside edge than I am with 16x7 +40.

But, compare this to a 225 tire, which is 8.8" wide, and fits with a +45 offset in the rear.... you should be fine, almost an inch of clearance.

Maybe someone on here is runnning those and can answer for real.

cool, thanks...i tried thinking about it starting from the 7" wide +48 wheels i currently have, but i don't have my car here to look at clearances or anything, so it wasn't much help.
