h22a4 11:1 type s pistons labor question
Hey I have a friend who has put 12:1 pistons in his gsr. We were going to put mine in but people started telling us that we weren't going to be able to because you aren't supposed to hone the sleeves in an h22 like my buddies gsr. They said that I should just take it somewhere to get it done but it's like 800 to 1000 just for anyone to touch the block. I've seen sleeves on an h22 and I know they're thin but I didn't think they were so thin that I couldn't hone them myself. Someone that has preferrably worked on an h22 block please let me know Why I can't put 11:1 pistons in myself.
Edit: I typed out this whole long reply thinking you were wanting to drop in something other that Type-S pistons, then I read the subject again..lol
I dunno about the honing and ****, sorry.

You need to hone the block before putting in Type-S pistons. IT needs to be done let the rings seat right and not leak. Sleeving is not needed cause the Type-S pistons work with the FRM coating on the sleeves. Just hone, get new rings, remove old pistons, replace with new ones and break-in the rings.
I know all that but i've heard dangerous things about doing it yourself instead of a machine shop or something. If anyone has done it let me know.
I let a machine shop hone and install my Type-S pistons, they did it from break down plus balancing the crank going to a complete block (i bought all the parts), they put it all together for 450.00. And that was checking all the clearences from all the bearings rod and crank.
