hey guys, anyone here in cali use an aftermarket, SMOG legal cat? i just started throwing a p0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold) so i'm pretty sure a new cat is to be ordered. i checked out my lhd(local honda dealership) and they quoted me something near 1100bucks!! i need something soon so i can erase this damn cel! thanks in advance.

when i had my CEL read at autozone i got the same p0420 code and it was an oxygen sensor

what year is your car, if its 98 or newer just get a O2 simulator 25 bux no more CEL, but however if your car is older just by a catco or whatever those weld highflow emissions legal ones

isn't the o2 sim a ghetto version of fixing the problem??
i'm not entirely sure what the o2 sim does...help?
also, since civictildeath had a problem with his o2 sensor when he threw the same code, do you think that that could be the same problem with mine? i'm about 90% sure the o2's have never been changed(the car is at 120k). i figured that it was the cat though(high flow cat from landspeed racing) cuz when i went to go get smogged in one of the categories i was something like 3000ppm over the limit (gross-polluter). should i try replacing the o2's first and see if that clears the code?

The secondary O2 sensor is whats responsible for letting the ECU know that the catalytic converter is healthy. O2 sensors also have a service life of about 75-90k miles. With yours being at 120k, thats more than likely the problem.
