Default d15b swap... specific questions

just some questions i've come across while searching this site for info.

1) will the d15b vtec pass smog? i've read some things that it wont.. why doesnt it? what does it take to make it pass?

2) is the d15b+turbo comparable to the b16 swap? thats what i was gonna do, but i started searching and now i'm confused again..

3) does the d15b have option for an LSD tranny? hmotorsonline.com doesnt have LSD as an option.. can i get one? what bolts on?

just incase you;re wondering, i've got a 91 4dr that the swap is going to go into.

thanks in advance!

1.) Depends on the local laws. I pass my jdm b16a every year here in Pennsylvania

2.) Definitely should be faster as long as the tuning is spot on.

3.) Yes you need to use an Si/Dx transmission and swap in an aftermarket LSD like the Quaife.

bump for more questions

will any d series tranny work with it? i've got the stock motor in the car now, so its a d15 too, specifically a d15b2. are the d series trannies interchangable?

D15B SOHC VTEC Longblock <-- thats the motor I'm thinking of... from hmotorsonline. Are their horsepower estimates correct? I've got another source that says its only around 100 HP....

i'm so lost.

in California to Pass with a D15b you will need to use a D16Z intake manifold, and ecu. or any other aftermarket part needs to barred in order to pass.

Best ECU is probably a P28 (OBD-1 92-95 Civic EX/si) JDM D15B used the P08 in JDM land.

The motor puts our 128hp (130ps) at the flywheel.

Great turbo motor. Some other guys have 200+hp with theirs.

The LSD tranny is a rare find. Good luck if you want that hydro tranny. I would just get a DX/Si and purchase a LSD for it. Let me know if you need help with the tranny build.

Wow, you got a lot of reading to do.

You said you have a 91 dx which means you have a Dual Point Fuel Injection (DPFI) OBD-0 car. The d15b vtec is Multi-Point Fuel Inject (MPFI) obd-1 engine. You will need to convert to mpfi and obd-1 to run the engine in your car properly.

Hey dude,

I just moved to Thunder bay, and have done that swap you're looking to do a few times plus nurmerous other swaps and engine builds. I would be more than happy to give you a hand or give you some information, shoot me an e-mail or find me on MSN and I'll help you out the best I can.

later
