Default Advice needed: Found a decent 88-91 CRX Si chillin' in a mechanic's lot.

EDIT: First things first, this is my first post in this forum. I have a 97 EX coupe, so I don't know CRX's well at all. Sorry in advance

Long story short, there's a 88-91 red CRX Si sitting in the parking lot of my local community center. It's been there for a LONG time (like a year), and it's one of many cars sitting in a local mechanic's lot, where they buy them from auctions, fix and sell them. The interior's in alright shape (Si seats ), exterior needs work/paint and new bumpers, but the wheels, suspension and alignment seem fine. I also believe it still has the stock A6 in there too

Not sure of the mileage on it, but they do not know what they have, or care about it. Only problem is the hatch window is busted out.

Assuming it runs, how much should I offer for it? Like I said, they don't know what it's worth, and don't really care either. I'm not sure whether to keep it as a beater, build the **** out of it instead of my boosted 97 civic coupe, or part it out and make some money on it.

$200? $300? Less?

Don't pay more than 500. I would offer 250 and see what they say. I am partial to the crx so I say keep it as a dd or build it and use your 97 civic as a dd. Good luck and you won't be disappointed with the crx.

as long as its straight, and it its just a window a a bumper, if you get it for 400-450 i would say your not getting ripped

I'll try and post pics of it this week.

I assume the battery's dead, it needs new plugs and oil for sure.

dont settle for more than over 500, its a diamond in the rough. It's just needs the right person to unleash it. You wont be upset with it! Lets see some pics of this thing.

Oh, I won't stop until I get this car for less than $200.

It's simply not going anywhere.

Question: If it doesn't have a title, then can I use it as a track-only car? It has plates as I can see.

I paid $200 for a STD hatch with 2 bad cylinders and few big dents.

Under $200 is a good price...

Yeah, especially assuming the motor's good.

Because if it is...JUNKYARD TURDBLOW

That'd be so cool to have 2 turbo Hondas...twice the problems!

UPDATE: Went there today to take pics. Can't upload them till the end of the week.

- rear quarter panel on driver's side is bent/dented. Nothing to lose sleep over.
- bondo/primer on fender, doors, hood, quarter panel.
- ignition is hanging. LOL
- Interior's alright actually. Si seats in good condition!
- wheels look straight, one is flat. Oh well.
- rear hatch window is busted, needs to be replaced. But the hatch is fine - should I just get a new hatch w/window, or replace the hatch window?
- bone stock A6 just chillin' in the bay, 137k miles
- front bumper is okay, rear bumper needs to be replaced. Hopefully no frame damage in the rear, but if there is - who cares?

Thoughts?

Can I be the first to say 'Joyride'? I might be a little concerned considering this vehicle is obviously a theft recovery.

The more exterior damage there is, the more you can bet that the engine has been neglected, too. D16's don't like to run on low/old oil.

But there are only so many variants between $200 and free. Give 'em $150 for it. I don't think it's worth much more than that. And be prepared to swap/rebuild the engine.

haha mine burns oil like crazy and i don't care cause its getting swapped so i usually have to add about 2 quarts at a time (every 1k miles or so). it hasn't blown up yet so i'd say they do alright on low oil lol.

oh you think thats bad? you should see some of the EW engines, like this 85 civic that my friend had, burned a quart of oil every 60 miles. however, i'm trying to get that car and swap a d16a1 in there. right now its at our school, the teacher's trying to sell it for 500, he's kinda a redneck and looks down on hondas, but i told him my plans, dual motorcycle webers, keeping it carbed, and he said if its still there in a month (its been there for 2 years, why won't it be?) i can have it.

edit: wow, maybe i should almost delete this post, it has almost no relevence. sorry.

ANOTER EDIT: i remembered my point (no i'm not stoned). that car burned negligible oil before sitting, but the valve seals dried up. expect it to burn oil, especially when you start driving it. it will probably get better after a couple weeks, though, if it still runs at all.
