hubcentric rings??
To those with any aftermarket wheels, I got a set of Rotas with a hub bore of 73, and I know the ITRs bore is 64. I've heard from people that the rings aren't necessary if the lugs are seated and secured properly. Just kind of curious what people here have done and what you would suggest.

The function of the lugs is not to bear the weight of the car - that is the function of the hub and that is why it is ideally necessary to use hubcentric rims and/or rings. The function of the lugs is to fasten the wheel to the hub. There are a lot of places you can get hubcentric rings (e.g. H&R)
You will have problems with wheel balance and possibly damage the rim if you ever hit a pothole or something similar.

Question.
Obviously wheel design factors into the need of hubcentric rings.
Are some aftermarket wheels designed to work with a our hubs the way that factory wheels are?

I don't think very many wheels are specifically designed for the R in particular. Mainly because of costs...They make a Pseudo universal wheel, and it fits many different vehicles (using different hubcentric rings).

I'm not real clear on what these rings are suposed to do. Can someone elaborate, or post pics? Thanks.
Many aftermarket wheels have a center bore that's bigger than the stock 64 mm. Thus the hub can't absorb those lateral forces, and the forces are transmitted to the lugs (the five big bolts that stick out through the five holes in the wheel, that the lug nuts fasten onto). These forces are in addition to the force of the lug nuts holding the wheel onto the car. So there's a lot of force all being transmitted to the lugs instead of some of it being absorbed by the hub.
Hubcentric rings are metal or plastic rings that fit inside the center bore of the aftermarket wheels, so that the inner diameter is the same size as the hub, and maintains contact with it. That way, the hub can bear some of the load of the wheel, through the hubcentric rings.
this is funny that now everyone said you need them , , when i posted the same post the other week no one knew what i was tlaking about and said i dont need them and they are a waste of money basically. . now everyone is saying you need them?

Walee at http://www.machiii.com carries the plastic hubcentric rings in a wide range of sizes. That's where I bought mine. To order, you need to know your wheel bore in mm and your hub size in mm.
But I'm still looking for a source for metal rings. So if you know of a vendor that sells them in metal, please post...

Thanks for the explaination. I guess I assumed that when you ordered a set of wheels that is said to fit the ITR that the bolt pattern and the center bore would be correct.
thanks, I'll try them. Are they pricey??

Mine were $20 for a set shipped to me from CA. I guess that might be considered kinda pricey for 4 plastic rings...
But he was the first shop I found that would sell me them. I talked to 5 other wheel/tire and performance shop places before him. Some of them did not have the size I needed. But of the shops that did, none of them would sell me the rings. Most shops (including Tire Rack) told me that they had a policy of not selling hub rings unless they carried the wheels that I wanted the rings for. I assumed the shops were afraid of a safety or fitment issue...

Ummm I just got back from Discount tire, I got 4 plastic rings for just over 5 bucks installed. I didn't keep the bag, or I could tell you.
I know it is smaller 64mm. Maybe 57?
Sorry
