Default pics: does this look like a blown hg

It looks like my pistons were steam cleaned so i figure it was my hg? the hg looked ok but somehow coolant must have been seeping in. In goes the arp's and new oem hg. i was having wierd overheating problems.

were you blowing out any white smoke? I know it might sound too simple but check the radiator if you still have the problem. A friend of mines just changed an entire engine because the car was overheating, the second engine did the exact same thing (he knew the second engine was good cause he just took it out of his other car), before that he checked all the sensors, checked heater core, thermostat and ended up being the brand new radiator he just bought.... hope you solve your problem. Also check your surfaces to make sure they're all good.

not too sure, never saw pistons like that before. mine always had a very light coat of carbon. may i ask why you need rc750's on a stock ls shortblock? a bit overkill?

yeah Leng, i'm pretty sure something happened. your pistons look too 'clean'. but anyway, since you've got your motor all apart now you might as well start disassembling it. i'll have my pistons out hopefully this saturday night.

i'm taking my block to Import Engines to get over bored to 84mm and decked. if you want to take it there i can give you the number.

i'm gonna have them bore and hone my cylinders to the piston specs and then bring it over to my buddy's place and assemble it there to save a few $$$.

The reason the pistons look so clean is from all the extra fuel from those huge injectors. Was your car running really rich?

Thats my guess.... whats your compression across the 4 cyls?

I have had a HG go on me and steam clean a piston, and it sure DONT look like that! I really looks shiny and new!!

That my friend looks like used bacon grease on all your pistons. looks like blow-by

i can bet u your block is warped, the reason why i am saying this is because my brothers (bought used) 99 Si was overheating, him and his friend put in a new radiator and it was still overheating so he took it to honda to get it done by the professionals, couple days later he got a call from honda saying his hg was blown and his block was warped. honda did a little more digging on the engin and also found a missing screw on is im (can you say sc by previous owner!). he got lucky he clamed it through insurance and broke even on the car!

usually when a hg is leaking, the pistons are clean. not to mention, u will be able to see where on the headgasket it is messed up. that looks more like bad blow by than ne thing else.
