engine code is d16y8.
best power made on a sohc is from a turbo.

D16Y8 - Engine Code
127HP - Stock HP

Very reliable engine if taken care of properly (oil changes, tune ups). Very capable of nice WHP numbers when built and turboed.

i have seen d16y8's make around 300whp with a turbo. that is the best form of power for that engine. it has plenty of potential, stick with it, parts are cheap and they turbo's are easily thrown together.

An SOHC vtec is capable of good power. A lot of the members are still rocking the SOHC. Just wait till they get on this thread and tell u.

Very good engine one of the best trannys also. It's just as reliable as the loose nut behind the wheel though. Keep it if not through it away in my trash can I'll dump it for you.

Power can be made without turbo, but you'll end up spending around the same amount of money and wont make anywhere near as much HP.

VTEC? It's there buy you wont feel it much. After all it's just a 120hp motor in a 2500lbs car, cant really feel much of anything untill you do some work to it.

Nah. Pretty much all D series things are interchangeable with other D series. Most B series with other B series, but B&D parts don't mix.

i swapped in a 99 d16y8 into my ek, you can feel the power increase from the regular d16y7 motor. But as far as VTEC, no i dont feel a thing. I think its a good start for someone just getting into the scene.

I'd have to agree to that ... and i believe you should definitely go boost . because just bolt on's and such will add up some hp & tq. but it doesn't give you a big change (< - - - might be a little confusing) but anyways just turbo the D
