What octane gas do you have in your neck of the woods?
The best pump octane we have here is 92.
I remember when I drove my R back from NC (where I bought her)...that along the way I got 93 or 94 octane. Can't remember for sure.
My Q is...how much better will our R's perform with higher octane gas? What's TOO high octane for a stock ITR?
(damn snow has got me bored at work...)

Sunoco 94 Octane in Northern VA. As I understand it, the purpose of higher octane gas is to prevent detonation. I think the law of diminishing returns apply to going higher on the octane chain. In other words, if your car does not detonate with 94 octane, there's really no use in going for anything higher. Have I been misinformed?

Yeah the gas here went down from 92 to 91
But I hear that racing fuel can be purchased from the Unocal 76 Gas Stations.

Knocking is LOUD...that's when you know you hurt your engine pretty bad.
Clacking is more like valves being biatchy and making noise.
Pinging is different...hard to explain, but usually not as bad.
