Please critique my tig welds
I like the aluminum more than the stainless.
In the top bead on the aluminum, it was a bit hotter than you need. The bottom bead looks nice. Nothing needed but practice to get better consistency (bling factor), but nothing really wrong with it.
On the stainless, it looks a bit hot, or poor gas flow. Do you have a gas lens? Other than that, same thing stands for the stainless as the aluminum.. very acceptable, just practice to get the bling to it.

Been tig welding for about 4 weeks now. I have a long way to go, but its my major in school, along with machine tool technology. I love every second of it.

Nice welds.
I have a question when I weld Aluminum I get that white stuff around my welds also. What causes that?
Cause I seen some guys like fabman, tony1, ETC.
that dont have it.
I clean and wire brush my aluminum before welding it.
Thanks

Yes sir...I have since gotten better at aluminum, those are some of my first. You can keep them to a minimum if you watch your heat. But aluminum heats up so fast its kind of hard.

Isnt the white stuff just oxidation from the metal? Like the top layer, when you heat it up it causes it to flake off?

Looks good man! I didn't know such welds came out of the KVCC booths ;p What machine are you using, and where are you getting the stainless? From what I saw, it was empty

Stainless steel was always availabe for me. Wasnt even an issue. I used all sorts of different machines. Aluminum was a lincoln air cooled, and the stainless was on the older miller that they have there. I used it cuz i thought it would challenge me more due to being an older machine, and it turned out to be my favorite welder there.
