Motor swaps from an INVESTMENT standpoint
Hey HT brothers,
As someone who has posted earlier about 'graduating' from the DC, another scenario has surfaced that would involve getting a sedan for my family AND keeping the DC as a weekend / fun car. Now, it seems all possibilities are on the table, including a project motor.
First, I would start with ditching my old B18B setup for a B18C or B18C-R. (Let's not get into the LS vtec stuff / debate here, please -- it's a dead horse already). From a number's standpoint, I've always looked at it from the negative side and never considered what I'd be adding to my car's value on the rice market, the selling cost of my B18b to some hatchcrap owner, etc.
I'd like to get some input on the following P & L
analysis:
Description cost
1. JDM B18C-R -$4500
2. Labor + add'l parts -$1000
3. Selling price of my B18B +$800
4. Added (private) value of car +$1500
----------------------------------------------------
Net investment cost -$3200
Fun of driving *priceless*
PROS: Reliable setup (w/ good motor), fun of driving
, added private value of car
CONS: No added insurance value, risk of getting lemon motor, premium gas costs
Let me know what other intangibles should come into this decision. Thanks.

You can get more than that for your B18B1 if it's a clean motor. Plus it shouldn't cost $1000 to have the motor swapped if you find someone here on Honda-Tech willing to help you tackle it. Regarding the risk of a lemon motor, if you go through a reputable company such as passwordjdm or hmotorsonline, then that risk will be minimized/eliminated. Also, a 96 spec ITR swap can be had for around $4000 these days.
