I'm still pissed about that!
Look for the cluster pin out for your car and find out which wire controls that light. Tap into that wire and connect it to the VTEC pressure switch wire, either in the engine bay or at your ECU.
And it has been done many times.

lol, so I take it you were the victim of that joke?
BTW: Racing_beat, that turbo i bought from you is oil cooled, right?

The first time I read your original post I thought, god that's stupid. Then I realized it would be pretty cool on my car actually. It's kinda hard to tell with a SOHC when the VTEC kicks in. One of my friends says he feels it at around 3500, but that seems way too early for me. Anyways, I didn't know some Civic's came with shft lights.

I would keep the shift up light so you can maximize fuel efficiency.
It would serve a much better purpose during normal operating conditions.
The only reason that you would need to know the exact VTEC engagement point would be during dyno tuning or some other sort of diagnostic test.

It would be better to just hook up the light to an RPM activated switch, change out the bulb with something really bright, and use it as a shift light...

That light is directly controled by a pin on the ECU. Only the CX & VX ecus use this pin as a shift light. If your new "swap" ECU uses that pin for something else on the original car, the light will come on when your ECU tries to use it. In your case it seems to use it all the time. All you need is a wiring diagram to pull the pin out of the ECU plug. Problem solved...
My buddie has a stock 92 CX with an EX transmission in it. Once he shifts into 5th gear, the shift light will come on. I guess the ECU can't tell the difference in transmission gearing. It must base the signal on throttle position & vehicle speed...
Just some useless facts...

The 1996-2000 civic HX also uses the same light. When I swapped my motor the light just stopped working. I bought an MSD RPM Switch and and have a really bright led (shiftlight from an 04 r6) that I'm gonna fit into that spot where the shiftlight bulb goes.
