power lag on old accord
well my friend has an early 90s accord and he told me that it kinda jerks and loses power under 20 mph.....when i drove it and pressed on the accelerator it started driving normally but then after a while it lagged and felt like the engien couldnt get power and it jerked then went forward. its an automatic and i was wondering if its the transmission???any help would be good thanks
Sounds like a transmission issue. Check the level and condition of the fluid. It could be a little low. If it is dark and has a burnt smell, take it somewhere and have it flushed out and refilled.
Flushing the tranny could be bad for it. You could blow out the chunks of crap that are sitll holding the thing together. Check the fluid and add if necessary. Tell him to start saving for an F22B.

Flushing the trans is not bad however H2290 is correct, it could loosen particles in the case and in turn causing a total failure of the trans. The best route to take is to replace the trans and the torque converter.

Every good mechanic I've talked to has told me the same. If it hasn't been flushed regularly they you're probably doing more harm than good with that many miles on it.
Just throwing this out there...it couldn't be clogged EGR could it since it sounds like it does it after it warms up?
*Yet another reason I got a stick!
