Default engine check light

hello im new to hondas so im hoping someone can help. my kids got a 1988 crx dx with an auto tranny. the code im getting is a 19,witch states "in the haynes manual" that something is wrong in the trans. it says to take to the factory for repair, does anyone know what this code means. i talked to a few people and they said change trans. fluid and clean out srceens under solenoids on trans. did that pulled fuse to reset ECU still getting code 19. maybe im looking in the wrong place. we just got this car and it was neglected but now its got a good home. thanx for any help.

Code 19 is "Lock-up control solenoid"

First step is to remove the hazard fuse for ten seconds
[Sorry you did that, hang on for a second]
to reset it and then see if the code comes back..
hazard fuse pictured here:

From there it says to use a factory test harness to check the wiring..
Which leads to:It could be the wiring, the ECU or the lock-up solenoid itself..

hey thanks for the info. well it looks like i might have to take it to a shop. we've got another problem. now its surging, checked for vacuum leaks none found. still "19" code after resetting ECU. throttle stop set correctly still surging. could these problems be related? is there a way to check the solenoids with an ohm meter? someone told me the surging could be caused by the throttle position sensor that involves replacing the throttle body. boy do i feel lost here in honda land. i'm an old skool air cooled guy,so this old dog WILL have to learn new tricks.

Factory service manual from Helms..
One more pic:

The best thing to do with the DPFI throttle-body is pitch it..
I had nothing but problems with mine..

Look in the FAQ section for links on converting it to MPFI..

bleed the coolant system. Having air trapped in the EACV could cause surging. I see it all the time.

im back in from the garage, i checked the solenoids for power yes but with plug disconnected i get 11.5 volts, with it connected i get 4.5 volts. i will check the cooling system, we drained and refilled the system when we got it. it did have a blown heater hose when we got it so the coolant was low. ive just read the pics from the service book and now im going to check for continuity. thanks everyone for the help.
