Spring Compressor.....valvetrain upgrade
I'm getting ready to purchase an entire KMS valvetrain(springs, retainers, valves, guides), but i don't know how to use a spring compressor. Does someone have a write-up? Help appreciated.
WAIT!!!!!!! Be careful about buying from KMS (honda-performance.com right?) I had an incredibly bad experience with them that is still going on. Most of it was them sending me the wrong cams, but the springs and retainers still took a long @ss time to get to me, they seem quality though. This company definitely doesn't give a Sh#t about their customers and I would never encourage someone to do business with them. It's your choice though, if you have an H23 and this is the only place you could find springs and retainers (like me), Crower now has H23 valvetrain components. I feel it's my duty to try and prevent them from getting business though, I was nothing but polite, and all they did was try to ignore me and be completely unprofessional towards me. As for a spring compressor, I just purchased one from Advance Auto Parts to take the stock springs off, and then got a mechanic to put the new stiffer springs on, cause the stiffer they are, the harder they are to put on. Any other questions, and I'll try to help. Good luck, my project has been hell since day 1.
I purchased the KMS Dual Springs and Titamium Reatainers and KMS 1mm Oversized Valves for my H23 Turbo Set-up I had no problems at all with their customer service and i recived my items with-in 2 weeks of purchase whitch i belive was promp delivery. I belive the KMS products are top-notch. Just my 2 cents.
It's not hard, but i had trouble with not being able to find a local shop that had a spring compressor that fit my head. I ended up having to borrow one of the huge C-clamp types that only works with the head off.
I'm glad your experience was better than mine, the springs and retainers probably took about 1 month + to get to me but they do seem very high quality, but they also counted wrong and only sent me 15 retainers which really sucked. As for my main problem, hopefully it's just their camshafts, so atleast try and stay away from those. They are probably quality, but it's just been a month after month hassle that still isn't resolved.
