Default Part name needed

Ok I pulled out my drivers side axle and also pulled out this part that I have pictured. I have red arrows pointing to the part and the bearing on the part. What are the names of these?

some of you guys are confused, halfshaft is not another word for the intermediate shaft.

I have heard the intermediate shaft called a 'midshaft,' not a 'halfshaft.' 'halfshafts' refers to the actual 'axles.' each 'axle' is considered a 'halfshaft.'

whatever, this is why I don't like using slang terms for car parts. I guess when the average honda "tuner" is like 20 years old, this is what we get. you expect junkyard employees to use proper teminology?

halfshaft is actually a more correct term for an "axle," since fwd driveshafts are not technically axles.

I know I'm splitting hairs and being ****, but this sort of crap causes confusion and is one of my pet peeves.

axles are axles FWD RWD it dont matter. You could go anywhere even the stealership and ask for an axle and you would walk away with the right part.

That is the intermediate shaft or halfshaft. intermediate would probably sound familiar to most.

ALSO, original poster, mark a baggie and put those bolts in it before you lose them or get confused

just because everybody (including me) calls them axles doesn't mean that is the technically correct term. most modern cars don't even have axles.

this is definitely not worth arguing about.

can the halfshaft bearing go bad. Because when i took it out it had some freeplay. is this the reason probly my wheel shake when i drive, i mean i know i need an aligment but its a perrety bad shake when i going about 60 or so.

Wheel shake is probably do to the wheel being out of balance.

And that is the damned intermediate shaft. NOT THE HALF SHAFT. Half shaft is refering to the two drive shafts that connect from the intermediate shaft to the wheels. The offical Honda Service Manual calls the intermediate shaft, the intermediate shaft, and the half shafts, drive shafts. So if Honda=God, Intermediate shaft=Intermediate shaft.

Click on the link I posted earlier. Then click on # 14 and look at the description they give.

For the lazy, it says SHAFT ASSY; HALF

So if Honda=God then its the Half Shaft.

Pointless argument anyway, its the same damn thing. I miss being on H-T constantly
