it will make the bumper slightly more flexable, not really anything to worry about though.

I had to cut out to fit my cooler into place... sorry, not sure how it would look otherwise.

look through the picture topic, you'll find some pictures of people's cars with intercoolers. You'll get an idea of what it looks like without the bar.

EDIT:

a quick photoshop of my car, brightness upped so you could see more detail of the bumper.

I don't like it.

sure makes it hard to mount my fog lights!

I would leave the grill unless you're going to fill it with a FMIC .

edit: cd8 your car is ******* sex....it might become my next project car (97 2dr accord and boost on the f22b1...... ). Sorry to thread jack but cd8 what motor setup are you running; h22 or f22b1 or boost or... TIA

i dont suggest you do it unless you have an IC in there. it only stresses the obvious if you do so

Don't have 96/97, but I had to cut the dogshit out of mine to fit the 3.5" thick i/c. Probably could have done a better job if I wanted to, but yes, mine has lost a lot of it's "stiffness", but then again, the 94/95's don't have the bottom support anyway if I remember correctly.

I had to hack up my bumper pretty good to fit that IC in there too. My engine has stock internals right now planning on building a block on the side, so I can be cool like you :-)

OT: do you have a custom DP? My turbo is internally gated and the DP was a BITCH to make because of how close it sits to the alternator.

Yeah, I made it out of half a 2.5" donut and some other 2.5" bends. It's very close as you can see in the pic. I'm going to build another one as soon as I get my new welder wired up. I still have my A/C compressor, but not enough room for the pipes, so have to fix that - summer in florida is coming up fast! I'm probably going to do a vband next time since it's a bitch to get to the bolt under the inside bend.
