You seem to be very misinformed on K-swaps. You can learn alot by visiting http://www.hybrid-racing.com (tech articles section will help you alot) and checking out http://www.k20a.org
At our shop we only charge $650-$1000 for labor depending on what parts are used and what condition the car is in.
We make a conversion harness and only charge $350 for it. And it's included in the package I referred to above.

They charge $1000 for a B-series swap. I'm not misinformed, our markets are different, that's all.

It depends on what all he is getting for 10 grand. If they are getting a k20a motor/tranny/ecu $6000, Parts for the swap $3000, and the labor $1000, then that sounds right.
and when you say B-series swap, you could mean a B16 from 1989. and I doubt that includes the motor, the tranny, and all the parts and labor to do the swap for only $1000.
I wasn't trying to say you were not Honda knowledgable, I was just saying you were misinformed on K-swaps, and it sucks to see people getting advice that isn't completely accurate. I by no means think that the K motors are the only motors worth doing, but if you have the money then it is the best choice.

No, I meant that Inline charges $1000 just for the labor for a B series swap. So that would lead me to believe that they'd charge more than that for a K series swap.
I would charge you 600 for labor alone, and you have to get all the parts. Im actually in south Gate too.
If you want to try some people try South Gate Auto off Firestone, but there pricey and only work at night (atleast thats when there garage is open).

aha. you got money? good luck man. but here is a site where where you can get more info. http://www.jspecautosports.com/default.aspx
correct me if im wrong but for the K20 swap you need motor/tranny/ecu and you also need the fuel system theres a guy i as talking to that sells swaps and he said 100% complete swap everything complete wire harness fuel system axles motor trannyecu i know that im missing something but any way 8500. but thats still way to much for me
$10k...I'm not saying its not worth it, but honestly...at best the cars are going to be 5 years old. You can buy an entire CAR with a b18c1 in it and an entire turbo kit for $10k. For the record, $10k into a 240sx (car and motor) will have much more potential. And speaking of potential, $5000 is a huge performance gap to make up. Unless you're going for over 600whp, does it make sense? I mean, there's already a non-K 801whp daily driver out there, $10k for that motor isn't unreasonable. Potential is great, but unless you intend on tapping that potential, it just goes to waste.
N/A reliability...who's to say a reliability-fanatic couldn't run a built b18c1 w/10.5:1 compression, forged internals and a 2.0L sleeved block @10psi for 100k+ miles? IMO the k20a holds the most potential in the cars it was made for, not in an old civic.
In the end its like an LS6 in a 60's camaro - money can be spent better, and its more for show than for go. The best k20a swap is when you run it in the rsx shell it comes with and sell the civic

or just buy a wrecked RSX Type-S for like 9k. sell off any of the parts you can (seats, dash, etc.) and throw the motor in your car.

If you have the time/ability/money that is the best option, guys have come out only paying around $2000 for their motors after they sold the other parts. Not to mention you can save a little money on the parts needed to do the swap.

If you can get all the parts needed my friend and I can install it for around 400 in Santa Ana. We have swapped a couple of k20a2 into eg's. We have a drag car with a k20a2, k-pro, and itbs and its best run was 12.6 but the tires kept spinning.(need bigger slicks) here is the video
