Default VIN's on new blocks!?!

When you purchase a block from the factory, does it get a VIN?

Thinking of ways to beat the system.

nope. all the vin is held onto by is break-off screws anyway, just like the ignition steering column bolts. So you can basicly just unscrew them off. Vin just refers to the vehicle itself, Vehicle Identification Number.

SO, if I were to purchase a new block from the dealer, I would have to transfer my VIN to it? Hmmmm, that won't work.

nope they don't come with vin #'s (open order part) and you don't have to transfer either because you can't really do it w/o breaking the tag (rivets). want to beat the system ...restamp the block i've seen it done... but why just to beat emissions?

California is mean that is why.

I have a 2000 civic, 2000 engines are poo pooy to find, and cost more. OBDII as opposed to OBDI.

Restamping to block won't work because the SMOG ref will check the vin number. The only thing I can think of is to purchase a 00 block and put the 95 stuff in there.

When I bought a tranny for my Civic, we just used vice grips to take the vin # off and slap it on the new tranny. Worked out well.

Yes but, taking a VIN for a SOHC to a Smog Ref on a DOHC isn't the brightest idea.

My whole issue is getting a 2000 VIN on a GSR block...........Damn, now I am trying to remember why I didn't want to use a JDM engine...........if I can just get the block restamped.

If I purchase the block from the dealer why can I not keep that reciept when I show it to the smog officals? Argh, time to visit the smog ref. and ask personal questions

I don't mean to screw anyone over. And I don't want to restamp a VIN I want to restamp the year on the block.

Either way. The whole thing is I want to take a 95 GSR and put it into a 2000 and be able to take it to a smog ref and get passed. Therefore, I would be making the car legal.

If I don't find a solution to this I am going to take a '00 HX block and resleeve/bore the bitch to 79mm. On the outside it will look stock. Inside will be a different story.

actually i wasn't talking about restamping the vin, i meant restamping the block. i have yet to see a jdm motor come though w/ the vin # on it. if i lived in ca i would try and sell the 95 and buy a 00-01. here in new york you can usally get more for an obd1 motor then an obd2, just a thought.

Haven't bought the motor yet. I want OBDI. Maybe I will just get a OBDII and convert it to a OBDI. Either way finding a 2000 block is a pain in the ****.
