I've searched guys..but nothin for me...
My '94 has never really put out "cold" air for me. It's been charged by me (r134-a) and then by a shop. It never got that much better. It will do ok on an average warm day, but not with 3,4,5 people in the car. When I turn the ac on, the compressor makes a ticking, sort of worn out sound. I've heard that the '94s were the first with that compressor cause that was the first year for the new refrigerant (134a). Can I put in a new compressor (96,97??) and charge it myself? I'm curious to see if I can fix this myself...haha. Thanks guys!

Do you know what temp it's blowing at? Mine was blowing at 50 degrees or so and I thought I needed an AC service. So I took it in and the guy told me that the vent or something wasn't shutting completely so warm air was mixing with the cold air. He had to shut it manually and it now blows at 40 degrees.
Though if your compressor is making weird noises it's probably going bad. I'd imangine you could put one from a 96 or 97 in.

sounds like you may have a bad clutch on the compressor
The AC compressor pulley always spins off the belt, however the compressor itself does not. There is a clutch mechanism operated by an electromagnet I believe it is that makes it engage when you flip it on. Have a friend switch on your AC as you watch the compressor. You should hear it click and then you'll see the compressor itself start to spin. Give that a try and let us know if the compressor is spinning. As they get old they can slip too.

I'm sure nothing is leaking and everything looks in-tact with the clutch. I really think it's just my compressor. Would it help if i put in a newer compressor from a newer year than the '94????
there is a problem with the switch assembly. Just like the above poster mentioned, you may THINK you're turning it all the way to cold but you're not. It's a simple underdash adjustment.
There is a DIY fix somewhere here in the Accord forum.
I believe it was StewPidasso that came up with it. I STILL have to do mine (been laggine for 3 years).

can someone give us more information about this DIY? I tried to search but dont even know what keywords to type in to find the DIY. Thanks for the help.
The a/c units in 94-97 cars do not have much reserve capacity. My car will get cold but it takes a while. Also the heat on these cars is controlled by a valve in the heater hose line. You may want to make sure that the valvue closes when you turn the heat off.

If you have low system charge, the compressor is going to cycle more than normal.

thanks guys...
now that you all are mentioning about the positioning on the control ****, i noticed it doesn't fully go to the cold sign. I held it there for about 2 minutes and the car started getting really cold. I believe it is "out of sync". How can i fix this??? anyone?

you gotta remove the center console and then you take it out and take it apart and align everytihng back up. Sorry I don't know the exact procedure but I am sure one of the Honda guys here would be able to assist you.
this has been annoying me long enough: Google is my friend....ripped from the net'.
It seems there's two things that can go wrong:
1) adjuster rods goes funny (what we've been talking about)
and
2) water valve mentioned below.
"I had the same problem with my 94 accord. When the A/C is on, I still get hot air out of the vents. To fix the problem, I found that there is a small valve which turns off the antifreeze flow to the heater core. This valve sometimes get stuck open or partially open, so your air that has been cooled also gets heated back up again.
To fix the problem, locate this valve, which is located under the hood next to the fire wall. Stand on the passenger's side and put your arm in past the cruise control cable, fairly far down in the engine bay. Just follow the antifreeze lines to the firewall and you will see it. There is 1 wire that comes out of it which opens & closes the valve when you turn the hot/cold dial on the dash. Just use your finger to close it completely. My vent temperature is consistently 40F when I do this.
Let me know if it works out for you.

micah i see the valve you are talking about. my temperature control dial in my car acts funny which may lead to your idea that the valve is F'd up. the control dial inside the car will go either to hot or cold, when i try in put it in the middle of the 2 or anywhere in between the dial just reverts back to either the max cold or max hot. i will turn that valve and see what happends. ill get back with you on it.:bloated:

I have the exact same problem. The service advisor at Honda told me that exact same thing. Mine now blows at 40 degrees as well. Thanks for the info though, I didn't know where the valve was prior to your post.
