Default Buying a rex (need advice)

ok my gf wants to buy a rex so we went out and looked at one today... it was VERY clean!!! body kit, full interior, custom gauges and radio, skunk coil covers, greddy catback exaust, dc headers, konig rims, new tires, b16a vtec..

ok the guy wants 3,000 for it and i thought that was good... then i asked him about the smog and he told me the issues. and theres where i need the help...

the guy said that the car has an 02 sensor its just not wired up. it needs to be rewired... and he said the car has a throttle body but it doesnt have the vacuum pressure sensor... so it needs a 0bd1 throttle body with the vacuum pressure sensor.... in order to pass smog... so are these big problems and how much does it cost to fix?

is this a good deal???

Wouldnt matter how good it ran, unless it was a complete change-over with full obd-1 conversion, it wont pass any smog. To pass, you would need to get up to obd-1 specs, and make sure all the modifications [ to the engine and smog systems ] are legal in the state of Ca. You are gonna have to have him smog it before you buy it [ illegally... ] or register it as non-op and start your BAR legal conversion. Theres a ton of help here on honda-tech if you can operate a keyboard and use the search function. IMO If you are not ready for the work invovled, its not worth it to buy a car you can't drive. No matter how much he says it will pass 'smog', no smog station will even look @ a swapped motor unless it is BAR'd. - Darrell

Good luck bro because it cost me about $350 to pass my smog and that was only the tune up for my engine. Including the cat, which cost me like $100.

If it's almost done then why doesn't the owner finish BAR'ing it then?? I mean it's his responsibility to get it smogged anyway. You can avoid the process by finding someone willing to pass the car every 2 years but that won't help you if the cops decide to check under the hood.

yeah.... i guesss so. he is just at the point of having a family and his wife wants him to get rid of the "fun car" and get the "family car" lol. he put in the ecu and bought new tires for it and she flipped out he put more money into it. he has to sell as is... i guess....
