I would say the best drop-in is K&N E-2427...to my knowledge, this is the ONLY drop-in replacement filter for 94-01 Integras. All other filters require cutting the stock paper filter and using a K&N universal filter. I had a setup like this for awhile, but now I have E-2427 and it is much better. Slightly larger diameter, a little bit longer, has a nice peg to support it in the airbox, etc... Also, it fits much, much better in my Icebox than the stock elbow ever did.

So, is this really a "drop in" that takes less than 2 minutes, or is there some mod. to the stock air box?

Where can I get that K&N E2427 filter?

Thanks

i read that the e2427 may have leakage problems (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=84388)... do u have any problems? it looks like a really good fit... does the top of the air box fit?

Well, i didn't know what everyone was talking about but now i know...behind the box, i guess there's no seal to block "warm engine air" from seeping into the airbox...

I don't really thing it matters all that much, the amount of hot air getting sucked into the box that way is probably very very minimal, not to mention once you get moving, the underhood temps aren't that much different from outside...

i'll take a pic (and a look) tommorow to see how big the hole actually is....

edit: oh yeah, the box fits fine, i just took it off or else you wouldnt know was under it

Here are two pictures of my K&N RU-2820 in the stock airbox. You can see the rubber seal in both pictures. The rubber seal fits in a groove or channel on the rear of the airbox. The rubber seals create a tight seal when the airbox is closed. The K&N E-2427 for some reason doesn't have the rubber seal. Just for comparision the RU-2820 cost approx. $30-$35 and the E-2427 cost approx. $70-$80.

I have RU-2820, 3210 & E2427.
I love the 2427 most.

I think you can use the 3170 too.
Anyone confirm this??

Yes, I had to first remove the paper filter material from the stock filter elbow and then mount the K&N RU-2820 to the filter elbow. Go to http://integra.vtec.net/geeser/ru3130.html for detailed information on this. I have been using the RU-2820 for approx. 3.5 years, long before K&N FINELY came out with a drop in filter for the Integra.

"Well, i didn't know what everyone was talking about but now i know...behind the box, i guess there's no seal to block "warm engine air" from seeping into the airbox..."

Now that you explained it that way Jay, I understand the leakage I've heard of. If this is truely the case?

At any rate, I have the Comptech Foam filter and it utilizes the stock rubber/plastic gasket for a tighter seal. But, even with the Comptech filter there isn't as snug of a fit like the stock setup. I guess you get the good with the bad...

BTW; BSQ's DIY intake is a very promising intake solution and He seems to be quite a knowledgeable and handy guy.

Good luck,

A.

Really? I don't see it. Can you take a picture of the filter that shows the seal outside of the air box?

hmm yeah it was dark, i tred to shine the flashlight to show it...it was freeeezing out today..ill do it again tommorow, i'll take the top of the box off...sorry tho, i dont have my paper up here at school to take comparitive pics with but from what i saw and felt, the seal was ok...the filter moved around a bit inside the box, but if there is any access for air into the box, its gotta be like 0.0000000000000001 cfm of hot air

I can't see the seal either. I don't think we really care about that little hot air going into the airbox, but we do care the cost difference between the drop-in 2427 and the RU-2820. One is 30 and the other one is 60 or 70?? So, you determine what's the best for you. I personally think that RU2820 will seal much better (because it's stock) and cost half of the price.

Ordered mine from macromotive.com last week. I know it costs more than the DIY RU-2820 solution (which is an excellent alternative) but I didn't want to deal with hacking up the stock filter. Either way you look at it ... it's still cheaper than a $200+ dollar K&N filter on a "stick".
