does anyone have pics of K&N RU-2820 in their stock air box?
i did a search, but they were old and the links to the pics are dead... i read that the RU-2820 is the best drop in, but i want to see it before i buy it... T

I would say the best drop-in is K&N E-2427...to my knowledge, this is the ONLY drop-in replacement filter for 94-01 Integras. All other filters require cutting the stock paper filter and using a K&N universal filter. I had a setup like this for awhile, but now I have E-2427 and it is much better. Slightly larger diameter, a little bit longer, has a nice peg to support it in the airbox, etc... Also, it fits much, much better in my Icebox than the stock elbow ever did.
ehhh who knows lol, i had the aem before that, so there was an improvement in low end, top end probably lost some a bit...dyno results to come this spring
So, is this really a "drop in" that takes less than 2 minutes, or is there some mod. to the stock air box?
Where can I get that K&N E2427 filter?
Thanks

i read that the e2427 may have leakage problems (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=84388)... do u have any problems? it looks like a really good fit... does the top of the air box fit?

I don't really thing it matters all that much, the amount of hot air getting sucked into the box that way is probably very very minimal, not to mention once you get moving, the underhood temps aren't that much different from outside...
i'll take a pic (and a look) tommorow to see how big the hole actually is....
edit: oh yeah, the box fits fine, i just took it off or else you wouldnt know was under it

hum... no seal... see that is what i dont unerstand... Thanks for the pics tho... they are really helpful
Here are two pictures of my K&N RU-2820 in the stock airbox. You can see the rubber seal in both pictures. The rubber seal fits in a groove or channel on the rear of the airbox. The rubber seals create a tight seal when the airbox is closed. The K&N E-2427 for some reason doesn't have the rubber seal. Just for comparision the RU-2820 cost approx. $30-$35 and the E-2427 cost approx. $70-$80.

BSQ: aah, i see the see the seal now! thanks... did u have to cut your stock air filter to fit it?

"Well, i didn't know what everyone was talking about but now i know...behind the box, i guess there's no seal to block "warm engine air" from seeping into the airbox..."
Now that you explained it that way Jay, I understand the leakage I've heard of. If this is truely the case?
At any rate, I have the Comptech Foam filter and it utilizes the stock rubber/plastic gasket for a tighter seal. But, even with the Comptech filter there isn't as snug of a fit like the stock setup. I guess you get the good with the bad...
BTW; BSQ's DIY intake is a very promising intake solution and He seems to be quite a knowledgeable and handy guy.
Good luck,
A.

yeah, if it does make a difference, im sure its not that big of a deal and im lazy to cut the seal from my paper fiter out..not to mention that its 400 miles away at home lol
BSQ is awesome. Ask him what a "Catch Can" is. lol

i finally took pictures of the back of the kn filter (2427) - guess what? there IS a seal
Really? I don't see it. Can you take a picture of the filter that shows the seal outside of the air box?
I can't see the seal either. I don't think we really care about that little hot air going into the airbox, but we do care the cost difference between the drop-in 2427 and the RU-2820. One is 30 and the other one is 60 or 70?? So, you determine what's the best for you. I personally think that RU2820 will seal much better (because it's stock) and cost half of the price.
i ordered the e-2427 from jegs.com today, it was $73. expensive, yes, but now i can start on my 10 year 1,000,000 journey in my R.
