Default Valve Lock Question...

Alright I need a set of valve lock to Finish building my B16a head, now my local honda dealership want's $5 each lock (I **** you not) making like 175$ for 32 or em (not even sold in pairs) and majestic honda won't ship to canada.

now I was looking in the aftermarket and found that manley made some valve lock for honda/acura and they are universal honda/acura.

enven though honda has different numbers for the vtec/non-vtec/d/b/h/f series locks.

using this theory the D-series valve lock should fit... and I happen to have an old D15b2 head in my garage with valve locks in it... anyone know for sure if they fit... i don't want to drop one of my SS valves because the lock did not hold.

thanks

Yeah no one else really talks about valve lock or keepers. I am almost absolutely sure that ferrea makes a set for hondas. bump for you.

This one thing I've never understood about Hondas. Valve locks, and guides, are wear items. All the domestic V8 guys replace them as part of a valvetrain upgrade, yet it seems NO ONE in the Honda community ever touches them. They hop-up every other part in the engine yet leave in 150,000 mile plus guides/locks.

I guess you could say they are a good factory item. Same goes for the trannies too. Everyone and their mom just runs a stock tranny on their 300+ whp cars. ?

but have you ever taken apart a high mileage honda head? the retainers and keepers looks brand new out of the several high mileage heads i've pulled apart.

Well for those that are wondering the D-series Valve Lock Fit the B-series... well the Vtec ones anyways. I ended up using my Valve locks from a D16A6 head I had Kicking around the garage, and they fit like a Glove.

its depending on the stress they see...

on an engine that saw 10,000rpm frequently, and had some VERY stiff springs,

when i disassembled the head, the keepers were sticking badly, and when we finally got it apart, they looked like mangled pices ofmetal.

i bought new keepers, springs, retainers, rockers, and cams for my head.
all i need now are valves and a valvejob
