Default volt gauge problems.

I have been trying to hook up my volt gauge for some time now but have had no luck. If i wire it up to the accessories all it does is blow the fuses. Same when hooked up to the cig lighter wires. If i wire it positive negative to the battery it sparks a lot and makes the wires hot and eventually melt. Is the guage itself broken or am i doing something wrong. I have not hooked up the light. Just the positive and negative wires thats on the back..no other wires there. Just using it to block the hole in my gauge bezel...but its not working...any ideas?

you might want to make sure that it isn't self grounding somehow or maybe you have your polarity -/+ backwards....?

First, make sure the device you're measuring is active (it's running). Second, you have to connect the meter in parallel with the device you're measuring to measure voltage. You connect in series to measure current.
